Ooh, I've thought of one. "Windows Installer: The Game".

You take the role of Fred Gumby, Support Technician at Heartless Industrials and are tasked with installing and upgrading Windows software on a variety of PCs, with each allocated support call getting more challenging. Examples include "Corrupt Windows ME Registry", "Printing to a Unix print queue in Windows 2000", "Fixing a Vista graphics driver" and "Sharing folders between different versions of Windows".

It increases the enjoyment and challenge by randomly emulating the potential issues Fred comes across, such as stroppy users, impossible deadlines, defective hardware and keyboards with the wrong country keycaps on.

A fun, educational and rewarding experience for any aspiring IT professional.

"Windows Installer: The Game" only runs on XBox, Linux and Macs. Of course.
I'd buy this.

That exists, I've played it. It's called ViginMedia Tech Support.

I played it a few times, but I never got anywhere. I couldn't get it to work properly. And it's not even a convincing simulation.

FIFA Football – the text adventure.

Code: Select all

You are in the middle of a football pitch. There is a ball at your feet.
>KICK BALL
You can't do that right now.
>DRIBBLE BALL
I don't understand.
>PASS BALL
You have been eaten by Joey Barton.
GAME OVER

Yep I've tried it too. I agreed it's not very good. I find it best if you don't request IPv6 support. Gets them in tizz and causes the game to crash. :D

Same here - I managed to cause a BSOD twice - the first by telling them I was trying to run the game under Linux and the 2nd time by trying to play the Easter Egg where, having played the same level over and over again, you try and skip down to the final line of the level where the end of level Supervisor is called.

Software Carnivore:

You're a small time player in the software industry. You have no talent and no idea. You're mission is to build yourself into a large multinational corporation, making yourself enough money that a small nation would be proud of it. You can use every trick in the book, from plagiarism to devouring up and coming talent before it has time to make enough money to fight you off!

Harder levels of the game include 'full legal liability' options where you get taken on by whole Nations legally and still manage to make a massive profit.

And don't forget you can always introduce the 'upgrade incentive' which allows you to produce product that is so unfit for purpose the user HAS to upgrade!
