Same with me. My rule is if I fell like killing it, I'll attack.
Mauiby doesn't do this that often, though! Only if umpteen things have been going wrong and he is in an appallingly bad mood; he finds that the destruction alleviates some of the anger. But generally he tries to help the clean and the weak, rather than kill them.

by Ganelon
I'll list both.
Commander Name: Ganelon
Rating: Deadly
Species: Human Colonial
Home System: Rabiarce G2 (adopted)
Legal Record: Usually very clean
Occupation: Trader, Bounty Hunter, Knight of House Rabiarce
Credits: Usually right around 2 million
Ship: Cobra MKIII "The Storm"
Profile: Ganelon was born and grew up as a "station brat" on the Diso main station. Dirtside was never home and is not his preferred sort of vacation area. He worked station and ship maintenance through his early years to be able to afford to attend the academy on Lave. He was a trader while building up his ship and account, then turned his hand to bounty hunting.
Eventually he was at a Feudal system and was approached to run a few errands for the Royal House. He later accepted a knighthood and swore his oath of fealty to house Rabiarce. Despite his "spacer trash" origins, he staunchly upholds his oaths as his main priority. Since he sees his priority as a knight to be the law in Feudal systems, his old attitude as a bounty hunting "Judge" still hold true. "A perp is a perp is a target." As such, he takes any opportunity to sweep systems clear of anything with so much as an "offender" rating. Obedience to Galcop authority and regulations comes *after* the previously mentioned priorities.
Commander Name: Undisclosed, known aliases are Tal Thaddeus Carver, Commander Carver, Commodore Carver, and others
Species: Human
Rating: Dangerous (?)
Home System: Lasoce G2 (adopted, actual system of origin undisclosed)
Legal Record: Variable, but usually officially clean (one way or another)
Credits: Undisclosed
Occupation: Trader, Entrepreneur, Privateer, Pirate
Ship: Griff Boa Prototype "Lady of Fortune"
Profile: Carver is known to be an assumed name, and it is uncertain what the individual's original name might have been. So far as is known, he never actually attended Lave Academy, and it is assumed he "bought an identity", probably of some other pilot who had died recently and where the death was not yet recorded. The original name of license is marked "classified" in the Naval database, and the name Tal Thaddeus Carver is applied via an official "change license to historic family name" request made in an undisclosed system. It is alleged that Carver was originally from a wealthy corporate family and that he staged his own death and disappearance, but no actual proof of this is on file in any publicly available database.
It is rumoured that Carver actually has no official pilot's training, and possibly taught himself to fly and fight purely by the use of simulator software intended only for recreational purposes.
Carver is an anarchist and leads a community based on a pirate cove somewhere in the Lasoce system. His dubious official status as the commodore of the Royal Navy of the small and impoverished country of Rahooran on Lasoce Prime is the only definite document granting him any sort of title or authority. It is by that authority, however, that he claims the right to stop ships and demand that they stand down and deliver themselves up for his inspection, allegedly for contraband forbidden in "Rahooranian space". Some or all of their cargo is sometimes seized if it is proclaimed to be contraband. Those who pass such inspections are sometimes released to continue on their way or sometimes encouraged to accept an escort by Carver and his "fleet" of mis-matched but heavily armed ships. The fate of those who resist "inspection" or who refuse the offer of an escort can only be speculated upon.
It may be noted that a large amount of alloys have been found at the Salvage Yard that Carver uses as his "cove", and that a large number of escape pods are brought in by Carver or his associates, but they maintain that these are recovered due to legitimate salvage and rescue efforts.
Being an anarchist, Carver violently resists any efforts of Galcop to maintain a strong supervisory or regulatory presence in the Lasoce system and other nearby systems of the section of G2 sometimes referred to as "The Courts of Chaos". Carver has a long record of armed conflicts with Galcop Viper ships, though at this time his legal status is "clean". Carver and his crew as well as over one hundred other individuals are wanted for questioning involving the disappearance of a Galcop Sentinel station in the Lasoce system, but no major criminal charges are pending on them at this time.
Considered to be armed and extremely dangerous. Approach with caution.

A lot of awesome profiles.
I'm actually tossing around the idea of starting a second Oolite character myself. Lukas Criitu and the Red Wyvern are kinda joined at the hip, but I'm itching to do some cargo contract stuff, without contract kills. A Red Wyvern is not good for that, so I'll probably start a new character and get one of those massive haulers. Speed isn't an issue there...I just want cargo space (and if possible, plenty of pylons).

Ooh! Perfect! Will get.
You'd make an excellent used ship salesman...hmm (story idea forming...?)

Seriously, try one. It's a complete pig of a ship but an experience everybody should have.

Or if you want a tricked-out (but expensive) one, try a Maelstrom.

I decided to go for a Boa Class Cruiser (couldn't locate the Anaconda). I'll look into the Maelstrom.

Generally, I've mostly been sticking with the Cobra Mk III while playing as Polzin. In part this is because I still can't afford any other ship at the moment, and in part it's because I like to try and keep my experience relatively close to classic Elite as possible, so I just stick with the ship you get stuck with in that game.

I must admit I've never realy created my 'own' persona. Generally too busy with other characters. I do have a hacked save game for Rebecca though - so if you count her...
Commander Name: Rebecca Weston
Species: Human
Age : 30 (as of 3142)
Rating: Dangerous (as of 3142)
Home System: Tianve G1
Legal Record: Clean
Credits: Known to have an AAA+ Credit rating
Occupation: Miscellaneous Trader
Ship: Isis Interstellar Mk1 Vampire 'Eclipse III', suspected to be modified.
Rebecca's official Galcop history has been heavily edited to give the impression of a typical trader profile. Editing concerns events between the years 3138 and 3140. Her official profile can thus be considered a complete fabrication.
Cheers,
Drew.

Lukas Criitu's ship name is The Fafnir, btw.
Two more Commanders I recently started:
Commander Name: Lukas DeFabrico
Species: Blue Furry Rodent
Rating: Mostly Harmless
Home System: Unknown (appears to be Zaonce)
Legal Record: Clean
Credits: Usually around 20-50 K.
Occupation: Long haul trader/passenger transport
Ship: Boa Class Cruiser
Lukas DeFabrico is a long haul cargo and passenger transporter. Little is known about him, as the only time anyone ever sees him is when they're making a business transaction. However, rumors abound that Lukas DeFabrico is actually the feared bounty hunter, Lukas Criitu. Some point to the unusual last name as a clue - DF standing for both DeFabrico and "Dragonfire", Criitu's nickname.
While considered mostly harmless, many also find it suspicious how effective DeFabrico is in a dogfight.
--
Commander Name: Brett "RaceRat" Criitu
Age: 4 (a teenager by blue furry rodent standards)
Species: Blue Furry Rodent
Rating: Harmless
Home System: Zaonce
Legal Record: Clean
Credits: Usually around 5 K.
Occupation: Racer/Passenger Transport
Ship: Firefly ("Zip")
Brett Criitu is the nephew of the infamous bounty hunter, Lukas Criitu. Unlike his uncle, Brett cares more for speed than anything, often running from a dogfight faster than getting involved in one. All the same, Lukas insisted on the youngster carrying missiles and military lasers. Brett's primary love is ring racing, though he also does a lot of passenger transport to pay the bills.
Orphaned at a young age, Brett came to live with his Uncle Lukas in Zaonce, and spent some time serving as co-pilot aboard "Fafnir", Lukas' famed Red Wyvern. He saved up to buy his Firefly, "Zip", but continued to work aboard the Fafnir until he could earn enough to outfit his ship with an IronHide and military lasers, upon his uncle's insistence.

The makers of movies like "Star Wars" Would do well taking some characters from here.
A wee note;
If you want to change your character, Just save your last, either fast or slow,
Then do a 'Save Commander' and change to a
new name.
You now have another character to play with.
I always do this when I buy a new ship.
Never know. I might not like the new ship.
