Yes, it is... but a healthy community requires respect and courtesy, which appear to be sadly lacking in your attitude.

the "named ships" listed on the WIKI page are those included in the OXP. are the names you added included now?

if not, they don't belong there.

You still are not getting it. In this community it is not all about what the rules say can be or can't be done but personal respect for another users work. You apparently do not respect other users work. All you can see is what you personally can gain, not respecting other people.
I am sorry about my attitude, but I still think that the idea behind the wiki is to have a editable database.

I agree. Some pages, like the Vampire, that have been taken directly from another site, should not be tampered with.

The purpose of those Wiki pages is to give easy access to a back story to an oxp, which at times can be just as important as the oxp in itself.
As an OXPer and fanfic writer, I know how the back story of an OXP can be important, many OXPs have novels to go with them, and some novels have OXPs to go with them. But wouldn't it be nice of anybody could help craft the wiki pages to add details about the back story or technical details for an OXP, thus helping to create a more complete wiki in the end?

BTW, my comment about creating a EULA-licensed OXP was not meant to say it's a good idea. Such an OXP would not help anybody.

to add technical details or edit errors might be helpful.

on the other hand, the back-story is the intellectual property of the author/OXP creator and should not be changed with personal additions.

Yeah, that's a good idea. If you think the two extra Caducei shouldn't be there, they can removed.

On the whole yes. But you just rode in without even an "excuse me" and decided upon yourself that you had the right to change something just because you could.

It was complete as it was. What one person has in his own Ooniverse is up to him and no one (including you) has the right to say otherwise. But you are now changing another persons work because you think we all want to hear it.

You are lacking in a few manners.

I am used to the openness of Wikipedia, I guess.

I change it because I want it to be more complete. As I said earlier, if they (my edits) should be removed I'm fine with that.
It was complete as it was.
I meant the wiki as a whole. Just look at all the stubs and deletion requests! Couldn't somebody go over and edit them to add information? I do agree that the Caddy page is is a good page, one of the wiki's best.

I agree great care should be taken, and much courtesy shown when editing the Wiki.
For example a while ago while doing some research I discovered that quite a few of the default (core) Oolite ships had erroneous dimensions stated on the Wiki. These are not OXP ships but the core ones we all have before we install any OXPs.
I checked my facts thoroughly before I did anything, and then put a post on the BB explaining what I had discovered and stating my intention of correcting the Wiki, asking for any objections to be lodged.
It was only after several days, and having received NO objections (but several positive encouragements to act) that I updated the Wiki.
I repeat this was for the core ships, where acting autonomously would not have been 'treading on anybody else's toes'. Had this been an OXP ship, I would have taken the trouble to locate the author, and draw this problem to their attention, but would not have acted on it myself. I would however have offered to correct the Wiki on their behalf if that's what they wanted, but only after I had sent them a draft of the correction for them to OK it.
This, I think, is the standard of courtesy and consideration that we would expect.

I can agree with Smivs, and I can see I'm somewhat fighting an uphill battle I can't win.
I will always allow my pages to be edited in any way, but I'll hesitate before editing another's page. But I do think we need to get a team together to go over the deletion requests, the stubs, and the article requests. Lave's Moon has nothing there, although the moon is very important. We need to get somebody on it.

You're right, Ryan, that there is a lot still to be done to the Wiki. We're certainly not saying 'hands off'. If you want to tackle some of the real problems on there please do. All we ask is that there is a concensus and that you obtain general approval (via the BB) before any wholesale changes are made, and as you've gathered by now, individuals' pages need to be treated with a bit of respect.
Having said all that, the more people working on it the better.

I'm itching to help clean up the OXP section just a bit. The category lists could do with an update (several dozen active OXP links on the main page that weren't categorized properly), and a few of my own additions to the collection of Instruction Manuals.

I'm just waiting on that wiki account...still. (PMed winston and Ahru each twice over the past month and three weeks. No dice.)

Can I ask that you read this thread before any changes are considered to the OXP table and its catagorisation.

Heh, no problem. I didn't mean changing categories...I meant updating the current lists to contain the correct OXPs! Thanks for the link, tho, I'll be sure to use it once I have my account...

As far as I'm aware, the current lists do contain the correct OXPs.
There may be omissions if new OXPs have not been added.

A lot, including the Deep Horizons sets, aren't in their proper categories. I just looked. Though that may have more to do with the fact that no one ever created pages for them...?
