[UPDATED] Sniper Sight

Post by Wildeblood »

Sniper Sight OXP ver. 1.75.3.6
Date: December 4th, 2011

Place the Sniper Sight OXP - "Sniper Sight (1.75.3.6).oxp" - into your "AddOns" folder.

Head to a planet of technical level 10 or above, where you can purchase the Sniper Sight from the ship outfitters. Sniper Sight requires the Advanced Space Compass to function, and will not be offered in the ship outfitters if you do not already have the ASC.

To use the Sniper Sight, first target a distant asteroid normally using the ident computer, then cycle through your Advanced Space Compass to "target mode". Sniper Sight will appear and facilitate more accurate targeting. Please use responsibly - Wildefire Systems does not endorse or condone hostility between spacefarers.

The Wildefire Systems Type 1B Gunsight (a.k.a. Sniper Sight) is the Ooniverse's most customizable high-precision gunsight, however there is no need to edit files to enjoy this high level of user-customization. All of Sniper Sight's configuration options are easily set using in-game menus, and can be changed on the fly.

Sniper Sight Configuration
You can change the configuration settings only while Sniper Sight is in use.

Press N (shift-n) until "Gunsight Size" appears on screen.
Press n to switch between the several different sized sights available, or to switch it off completely. Your new setting should take effect immediately.

Then press N until "Gunsight Centre" appears on screen.
Press n to switch on the centre mark. Pressing repeatedly will vary the mark through several different sizes, before switching it off again.

Then press N until "Gunsight Opacity" appears on screen.
Press n to alter the transparency between 33%, 40% or 50% opacity. Your new setting should take effect immediately.

Then press N until "Gunsight Reticle" appears on screen.
Press n to switch the supplementary reticle (a.k.a. Scanner Targeting Enhancement) on or off. Use of the reticle in Sniper Sight is completely independant of whether you have purchased Scanner Targeting Enhancement for general use.

Then press N until "Gunsight Camera" appears on screen.
Press n to enable the gunsight camera. While the camera is enabled, Sniper Sight will automatically keep a photographic record of all asteroids successfully destroyed. (Image files will be stored in the folder "oolite.app/oolite-saves/snapshots/" on Windows computers.)

Then press N until "Gunsight Centre Colour" appears on screen.
Press n to switch the square centre mark from green to yellow.
Change Log:

TO-DO (The Future)

Make high-contrast centre patch selectable through a range of contrast settings. Will require re-write of script.

1.75.3.6 (December 4th, 2011)

Added gunsight camera to record kills. See "snapshots" folder and "Latest.log" file.

1.75.3.5 (November 29th, 2011)

Added 7th "size" of target sight (traditional small compass), so target sight can be switched off but high-contrast patch still used (2011-11-21). Internal changes: created six additional HUD files with various contrast strengths (2011-11-22), amalgamated all the configuration scripts into one (2011-11-29).

1.75.3.4 (November 21st, 2011)

Added code to switch back to normal HUD if the player changes the GUI view while Sniper Sight is in use. (Previously Sniper Sight would appear superimposed over status screen, etc.) Added the ability to change the colour of the centre box from green to yellow if desired - a trivial tweak, just for fun. Made some internal changes in preparation for multi-contrast version.

1.75.3.3 (November 12th, 2011)

Tweaked to add console message naming the current target when Sniper Sight is activated. Increased equipment price from 1200 to 1250 credits.

1.75.3.2 (November 10th, 2011)

Added configuration menu to switch target reticle on or off in Sniper Sight at will, independently of whether player has purchased Scanner Targeting Enhancement equipment.

1.75.3.1 (July 30th, 2011)

Increased selection of sizes from five to six, and added selectable centre box. Configuration menus are now only available while Sniper Sight is in use, to avoid crowding the N-menu.

1.75.3 (July 23rd, 2011)

Initial non-prototype, non-alpha, non-beta public release; has five differently sized sights and three opacity settings, configurable with in-game menus. Includes high-contrast centre patch copied from Cmdr Wyvern's MilHUD. Version number set at 1.75.3 to emphasize Sniper Sight OXP exposes a bug which can crash versions of Oolite prior to version 1.75.3, and you should not use this OXP with those earlier versions of the game. Thank you to Capt. Murphy for all his help, Cmdr Wyvern, Ahruman and others for encouragement, and another_commander for fixing Oolite bug #18189.

Sniper Sight OXP ver. 1.77
Date: January 6th, 2012

A few changes to bring this version into line with the MilHUD 4000 version I published earlier this week: added sixth size of centre box, remade all HUD files (and included "Gunsight" legend at top of screen), minor script tweaks, lowered equipment price to 1300 credits.

Download Sniper Sight 1.77 here.
Edited to add: Why are people still downloading this version? Hey, everyone, try the all new version 2.
