Re: Science Fiction Trivia
The book was written in 1983 and published in 1984 (I wanted something contemporary to The Dark Wheel for this quiz).
The title of the book is one existing word, with Latin root. It is also an acronym which describes (1) the company Ale works for, (2) the network by which employees of that company connect and (3) the artificial intelligence which administers that network. The author however added some punctuation into that word, which separates both halves of the acronym.
The artificial intelligence is the fourth main character of this book - together with the historian, his wife (I have forgotten what her profession was , but she had a good job which she could do from their luxurious apartment) and the hacker.
Here's a picture of the cover of the book (well, there are several versions - but this one I could find without the lettering):
What is the title of this book (with correct punctuation )?

Then perhaps in the 1985 movie Weird Science? If not, you might need to narrow things down ... for some reason this seems to be a fairly big trope!
