On the up side Oolite will welcome you back into the fold with an impressive OFFLINE game that can be customised to your liking.....
and some were worried that ED would steal players from us.....

The thing is that as long as they keep Solo Mode I won't mind as that's all I've been playing on anyway. As I said before I'm only annoyed as I can still play Elite, Frontier and FFE decades after they were made but I won't be able to do the same with ED...

LOL! I do believe they finally found the resting place for those.
You know Im too young for the original Elite, I discovered these types of games via Oolite and Ev Nova. Maybe my straying from the path was a sign? "Though shalt not play other space sims until though has reacheth Elite in Oolite." :p

Don't say that as I'm already there and don't want to leave!

I bought into ED a long time ago and here is my concern (bear with my analogy):
think of my computer (laptop) as a 70 foot yacht. When I supported Ed... their blueprints were pretty much in agreement with what I had. Over time, their blueprinters kept adding new and wonderful additions. .. now after a year, Their blueprint is no longer a match for my 70 foot yacht but is a oceanliner the size of the QEII. If I try to put everything they have onto my little yacht... I will experience a complete and fatal sinking. . However, if ED doesn't work on my little yacht... I can ALWAYS fall back on OOlite as it fits my vessel to a T.

Indeed they did, and it seems that they are
now worth a fortune.

You can still play them today though won't be able to day the same for ED one day...
EDIT: Although I'm still disappointed I do think that Drew's article on the situation is worth a read for all of those of you who are angered or disappointed with this announcement:

Even
El Reg is covering offline-gate (and there are Oolite players amongst the commentards).

Looks like this is going to blow up in Frontier's face.. just in time for the big launch party, too.
When Sim-City was released, they claimed it was "technically impossible" to release an offline mode. After the eruption of public outrage, within six months, they'd successfully done the impossible. What's the bet this turns out the same?
I certainly hope so, at any rate.

I just
cannot get further than about 60% in.

I've only read snatches - too much aggro for my liking. I pity the Mods - they can't keep up with it either.
