I've been very passive on these boards for about two years and figured I need to go ahead and join the conversation.

In keeping with the spirit of this thread:

I first started playing Oolite all the way back in 2011 when dinosaurs roamed the earth. I've been putting different flavors of Linux on old machines and finally installed Ubuntu 12.04 onto a decent laptop. Then my time in the Ooniverse became substantial.

I spent weeks selling the goodies acquired from even the most minor of offenders throughout G1 but never really tried to get into the game that much. Then I picked up the Oolite Saga by Drew Wagar. Ever since, I've been inspired to use the Ooniverse to find inspiration to play around with writing some science fiction.

Now I have a ranking of 334 and am taxiing customers throughout G2. I've been hoarding gold, platinum and gemstones until I have the credits to buy a new ship capable of making cargo runs. Then I plan on cashing in my precious metals and experimenting with other ships.

So hello to everyone on this board. If you find yourself on Reenus, look me up. I'll be the drunk guy.

... a tip: don't hoard too much metal and gems - you can only sell up to 127 units at any one time/station (you may already know this).

Hi mykdeen, glad you've decided to 'de-cloak'. Welcome. :)

I was not aware of this! Thanks for the heads up. I thought it would be an easy way to rack up some extra funds since weight of these items seems to be irrelevant.

I sure am glad I de-cloaked, as Smivs put it ;)

Not so... I think an amount over 500 kg (499 maybe) takes up one (1) cargo container.

Hi there,

Not my first post but I joined to ask a question about the OXP marketObserver and thanks to spara for his answers.

I'm kicking myself that for years I've been hunting for a way to play Elite via emulation when ooLite was there all along.

I started on the Spectrum back in 86, loosing hours when not playing rugby.

The summer before Uni in '91, I blew my years grant to buy an Amiga just to play Elite. My new roommate liked to always go one better and purchased an Archimedes as Elite was better.

I have a nice custom rig with plenty of raw power and I'm just loading up all the OXPs I can download.

This will suck hours out of me, thanks for that.

Cheeky young whippersnapper! Just you hold still while I manoeuvre my Zimmer frame into position...

(welcome to the boards!)

Alright everyone. I've been meaning to download and play this game for ages. I just did and boy does it bring back memories. I can't believe how addictive it is.

My starting run was between Lave and Zoance, desperately trying to avoid pirates. I forgot how unforgiving the universe was when you had no cash to buy any decent weapons.

I played Elite II on the Atari ST mostly by the way

This is where leaving the spacelane to avoid pirates and other ships is a good idea until you get enough cash from trading to get those weapons.

To do that, after jumping into a system, aim you ship away from the planet (45 degrees or so), and torus jump for a short while, before swinging back to towards the planet.

I find hunting bounty-hunters to be rather good sport! Welcome aboard!
You must be one of those Black Knaves of Xecees?

I may well be a knave, but I don't run with those guys. I don't exactly get along with another of Solo's creations either - the [EliteWiki] Cougar.
