Can't remember where this was from, but: "We are putting a lot of effort into creating engaging and fun multiplayer game-play. Elite: Dangerous is all about freedom, and you will of course have choices. Beta 1 will have the first stage of our functionality for matchmaking. We hope and expect most people will choose to play with the full online community, but from Beta 1 you will have other options too. You will be able to create friend lists, and just play with a group you create from that list. Another new option is single player. From Beta 1 you will now be able to play on your own if you like. You will still encounter other ships in the game, but they will always be AIs. "

Yeah, I'm wondering about how much it would cost to upgrade my computer to be able to run this :(
Don't know where you are, but I've always found it pretty easy to get cheap Imacs on ebay.
I just got a mid 2011 i5 quad core (2.7ghz) imac for £425
It was finishing at 4.30 in the afternoon, while all the workers are at work ;)
bargain!

Very interesting article.. thanks! 8)
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

I haven't posted a Peek of the Week for some time, however here's one showing the expanded area we will be able to explore when the Standard Beta 1 launches on July 27th:

Some of those names seem real-life: On Draconis, all the Ross'es, Chi Herculis. Time to find out where they are on our sky... I'm guessing Hercules and Draco constellations?

I really love the fact that like Frontier they're basing the map as closely to science and theory as possible :D

Yup, and we're gonna have an improved short range map soon, courtesy of kanthoney.

About the only improvement I could see would be merging Pleb's code for customizable galaxy seeds and sizes and planet numbers so that we could have a bigger Ooniverse if we wanted to!

I've been following the progress of ED rather closely. Looks great so far! I'd prob'ly wind up getting a copy.

Despite what Dave says I just know the multiplayer side of it is going to attract psychopathic shitbags with no goal in their sad little lives but to make others miserable. That's the nature of multiplayer games. I hear that there's a singleplayer mode in it, so I won't have to be bothered with jerks.
Let the jerks take their nazi complexes out on each other. Ha!
Running Oolite buttery smooth & rock stable w/ tons of eyecandy oxps on:
ASUS Prime X370-A
Ryzen 5 1500X
16GB DDR4 3200MHZ
128GB NVMe M.2 SSD (Boot drive)
1TB Hybrid HDD (For software and games)
EVGA GTX-1070 SC
1080P Samsung large screen monitor

The way I see it, though... if the multiplayer is in a galaxy sized playground, it will be easy to simply avoid any systems they're in. All the more reason to explore the frontier and leave the core worlds to the jerks ;)

I'm willing to bet there is an analogy to be made to real world colonization from our past here ;)

Chi Herculis is indeed a thing, placing that part of space around 52 light years away from Sol. Can't find On Draconis, though. The closest fit would be BY Draconis, 53.6 light years away.

Doesn't that say DN Draconis? Might be this.
