oolite.org is available for registration. I’m happy to do that and pay for the upkeep, unless there are objections or other ideas. I can get it for 0,70€ per month in the first year, then 1,50€/month, with DNS access and option to create subdomains.
Get it before anyone else does, and then let it point to timer's website.

@maik if u bought it - plz set DNS servers from our oolite-account on CloudFlare(I can give them) and than we can manage it and subdomains from CloudFlare (we will setup oolite.org points to old server until new site will ready)

Done. It will take a few hours to activate, then I can point the DNS to an IP address. Please PM me which one to use @timer.

Too early, got a message after placing the order that it couldn’t be registered. I’ll see if there is anything that can be done about it…

well... who bought it?
I have tried... but I can't - .ORG zone rules is crazy...
There is a faint hope that someone from ours or those whom I asked for bought it ...

Isn't it a bit early?
How reliable is the expiry date given here?

... the fact is that the status of the domain has changed - the redemption period has begun, I contacted support - the domain will be free on May 9-10 - what are we going to do? We will register each separately, can anyone succeed? Cybersquatters are not sleep :(((((
Can any of you contact others who can try to register and who can be trusted? Or with support somehow to communicate can they offer something? I just do not know what to do next, except that I will try to register.
so... now we have what expected:
Code: Select all
Name Server: ns1-auction.sav.com
Name Server: ns2-auction.sav.com

IMHO we didn't stand a chance
.ORG domains don't drop directly like .COM.
There are different stages:
At 01:00 UTC domains are release from PENDING DELETE to a so-called "dropzone"
This can be seen if a registrar does an EPP request to the registry, status of the domain will still be not availabe with the following additional message "Name held in the dropzone"
Domains won't be available for registration until about 14:30 UTC.
Then, only the registrars which have a special EPP access to this dropzone will be able to register those dropped domains. For "normal" registrars, domains will still be unavailable to register during this phase.
From my observation there are probably only a handful or so registars which do have this access, most prominent DropCatch with all their 1000 registars. A few others I observed are: Different Snapnames/Web.com Registrars, Dynadots Dropcatch Registrars (Dynadot1 to 12 or so), Godaddy and a few others.
I don't think there is any difference for the registrars which have this access, just DropCatch with its over 1000 registrars do outmatch everyone else which I suppose is the reason they get like any .org domain
This state will last for about 3 to 4 minutes. After that, all domains left are released to general availability and can be registered by any registrar.

Now it is up for auction
https://www.sav.com/auctions/details/3028074/oolite.org
Let’s wait until the last minute and try to snipe it. Hopefully the price doesn’t go up much until then…

Sav reserves the right to modify these rules at any time for any reason.

it will be "fun":
If a bid is placed in the last 5 minutes of an auction, the auction is extended so there is 5 minutes remaining from the time that bid is placed. There is no hard stop time for an auction.
PS bids are rising...

About site and other development )
I didn’t disappear anywhere, I’m a little busy at work, but I regularly devote time to development the oolite, while everything is local - CF allows. Now I am filling in the missing knowledge on the JS as a backend language - I easily created a site on my existing knowledge, but the JS backend is a new topic for me)
With the domain, everything happened corny and expected - I was told by people who understand this business that it is almost impossible to intercept droped domains with a background history - everything is automated there. Now let's wait for how it all ends.
In the near future I want to start automatically sending PM messages to active users (maybe all) - generate a PRIVATE unique key for each user_id (for example, any 64 characters) - if the forum server stops working - through this key, users will able to identify themselves on the new forum and other new oolite resources.
PS it would be great to start collecting additional beautiful screenshots and fictions from pilots for our site ;)

I'm personally not particularly concerned whether we get it or not (solutions are in place, switching back itself would be a minor hassle), but I do have to wonder if there's a way to know if one of "us" has the (current) high bid.
