OK a 1979 film, originally planned to be directed by Walter Hill, and again originally to have starred Veronica Cartwright in the leading role. In some languages (but not its original one) it has the subtitle the 8th Passenger.

Name it.

Now, I think that might be Alien. At least Alien had "The 8th passenger" as a tagline in Norway if I remember correctly.

Hmm.

In 2077 a meteorite destroys the cities Padua and Verona in Italy. As a result Spaceguard is built. 50 years later Spaceguard makes it's main discovery.

Name that discovery, the book title and the author.

That has to be one of my favourite books ever, by one of my favourite Authors - Spaceguard discovers a giant probe moving through the Solar System, on investigation (and rather crude entry) its a giant but apparently empty space city - the Book is called Rendevous with Rama by AC Clarke

(I still think powering it internally using an tidal ocean was genius!)

One of my favourite books ever - and I just happened to be on the forum just after you posted...

OK...

Thinking...

Hmmmm...

Ah...

A group of high school kids get roped into an interstellar kidnapping of what initially appears to be a bowling ball.

Name the book and the author please.

(You'll get this from even that obscure clue - if you either know the book or your Google-fu is strong.)

Is a clue required?

Not Spaceballs.

You might have to go off the Rails to get this one right...

Really? Nobody?

Alvin (but not the Chipmunk) plays a big part in the story...
