I’ve changed from phpBB’s standard, very weak CAPTCHA to reCAPTCHA, which is slightly stronger, more obscure, and also helps proofread book scans. Hopefully this will reduce the volume of spammer accounts. The restrictions on posting URLs seem to have done a good job of stopping actual spam.

Hmmm, the change seems to work. No new spammers over the whole weekend!

Congratulations! :D

(Though the Clock-Tower becomes a bit too peaceful now. I hope we won't start aiming at each other instead... :?)

That's good news. Means that there are ways to stop spammers in their tracks :D

Erm... CH pseudo-spammed on https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?p=40556#40556 !
I won't cut down a comrade, but do you mind terribly if I strike at - or at least tap lightly on - his neck with my sword's mine? Just to keep in practice?
You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?
I'm obviously not one of them.

Not really. If it catches on, it’ll be worth their while to attack reCAPTCHA. (The easiest way is to copy the image and use it as a CAPTCHA for a free porn site.)

https://bb.oolite.space/profile.php?mode ... ile&u=1888 looks suspect IMO.
As does https://bb.oolite.space/profile.php?mode ... ile&u=1889 but I might just have an itchy trigger finger!

Googling the names, 1888 looks OK... but 1889 is a non-posting member on soooo many forums (fora? forae? dang) all over the world it's either one of the planet's foremost polyglot polymaths, or a spambot.
