I've always thought of it as the sea, yes. Maybe 'motion within a moving entity' serves better. Summon a Latin wizard!
Ahruman, perhaps? He seems like a polymath to me! (Note to self: may here be succumbing to urge to flatter local head honcho, out of some sort of unconscious desire to ally oneself with power.) But we've got the literal or basic meaning, I think; the question is now about the reason for this motto, or about what it is being used to mean. What - who - we need is someone else who'se read the book. Or perhaps someone who knows any history to the phrase. (I've tried using the 'net, and didn't get anywhere, even once I'd downloaded and searched a well-regarded 700-page reference book, namely, Riddle's Latin lexicon.)

But probably these posts belong in the chatroom thread.

The ocean is always in motion.. so yes, it makes perfect sense to me..

(but my Latin is even rustier than yours, EV)
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Download and read it yourself, maybe!

Meanwhile, in the literature department:

You don't need to read the whole book. Two sentences towards the end of chapter 8 will suffice:

Moving within the moving element! It was a highly appropriate motto for this underwater machine, so long as the preposition in is translated as within and not upon. The letter N was no doubt the initial of the name of that mystifying individual in command beneath the seas!

Indeed, but that is itself translated from the original French, I presume. <goes and checks>
Mobile dans l'élément mobile is the original text, I think... so that seems correct.

Just by virtue of being on this board we are, perhaps, geeks. But this is getting ridiculous! :D That said: I did start it; and I think we're getting to the bottom of it! Fine work by the pilots-cum-scholars! Next up: base-four arithmetic in Sanskrit. . .(But, no I haven't actually checked what counting system Sanskrit speakers used . .)

Are you being disingenuous? Sunya is Sanskrit for zero or nothing or 'emptiness'. That very concept of 'zero' went from India, to the Arabs, to the West. Changing number systems - or doing anything fiddly in mathematics - is a challenge without it.

Hi Guys.

I am on the verge of releasing my first ship - A Colonial Viper Mark 1 from the original 1970's Battlestar Galactica Film (Seen below).

It is basically a one man fighter designed specifically for ship to ship combat. Its small size making it an ideal choice for a carrier or station based fighter but it is also able to provide a more general defence and escort role.

The lack of cargo carrying capacity or fuel scopes makes it, however,an unattractive ship choice for pirates and for this reason they are only rarely found amongst pirate groups.

The specification of the ship is as follows: -

Size (metres W x H x L) 19 x 12.5 x 30
Standard cargo capacity None
Cargo Bay Extension N/A
Maximum speed 0.375 LM
Thrust 50
Manoeuvrability Roll 2.3
Pitch 2.1
Hyperspace capable Yes
Energy 250
Energy recharge rate 3.0
Gun mounts 1No (Fore)
Missile slots 0
Fuel scoops available No
Tech level 7
Base price 140,000cr

I am in the process of putting together the readme file containing the licence etc but other than that the ship is just about ready (Unless I have missed something !).

Would anyone be interested in taking the first production model for a spin with a view to carrying out a pre-release test and letting me know of any problems ?

If so drop me a PM and I will post you a link.

Thanks Capt Muphy.

I'm just glad I am almost ready to get one released as I have been learning, picking up tips and tweaking my ship oxps in the background for a while.

I'll also check out the link you attached.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Capt Murphy - Just wondered if you can tell me how you insert a link to other pages as you have on your earlier post......... I'm getting in to the way the forum works a little now but this is something that I haven't yet done.

Hi Shipbuilder. If you copy the topic from the address bar of your browser and paste it into your post the board software should automatically shorten it and make it clickable (as long as the 'Do not automatically parse URLs' option at the bottom of the 'posting' screen is unchecked).

If you want to link to an individual post in most browsers you should be able to right click the Post Subject link at the top of the post and have an option to copy the link, which you can then paste into your own post.

Or do what the learned El Viejo says below......

Or right-click on the 'page' icon to the left of 'Posted' at the top of any post, then C&P the 'Link Location'.
