Anyway, I tried placing a new image (90x90 pix) and the board said:

There are several threads on the subject but to paraphrase - sometime ago one of our members noticed that our site, specifically the bit hosting the avatars, was being used by malware and spambots to hide some rather unpleasant code - because php is a bit lax in this - the Admins have turned the ability to upload ANYTHING off - I don't know if this will be forever, but it has been a while now.
Actually, if it's already been asked and there already are topics about it (sorry for not looking thoroughly), maybe even pin the information in a visible place. Then, as far as I'm concerned, you may even delete this...
