How many times have you started a NEW Jameson???
After re-finding Oolite sometime 2007 & after enjoying many months/years on Elite, Frontier, FFE, etc
I have recently completed gal7 Assassins missions (much enjoyed) & now feel some what lacking in direction...
I have legitimately amassed 17,705 kills, 204,488,235Cr, by stardate 2086486 & am a commander of a very fine & well equipped Kirin XM.
Now i find myself without a challenge. The Kirin XM is a VERY powerfull ship BUT a LARGE target too.
SO...
I have decided to abandon my successfull commander & start again...
WOW
the basic Cobby3 is so responsive after the Lardy @rsed Kirin, but I miss the auto turrets especially when compared to a PULSE laser....
So far tonight I have managed to amass enough credits to get Witchdrive injectors, ECM, shield boosters & a Mil laser.
Now we're rocking...
So, have you done the deed & gone back to square one????
& how did you fare???

Hi Tivva
Yes, I've done the "start from scratch" thing many times. It refreshes the challenge.
The question is: did you keep your well established savegame, or did you bin it?

I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

i do it quite a bit, i find leesti diso then back to lave, enough money for the thingy at zaonce, then some megabucks doing isinor to quitiri, rather satisfying
the only problem is that it gets both too easy and difficult at the same time
i mean once you can control the ship, docking is no problem at all- you can come in at any angle, flip her at the last and in she goes, but then at the same time, you think why bother engaging in combat until beam lasers
but then i love the excitement of being able to afford them

Now that is HARD, I do think the first 2 dozen jumps are the most difficult of the game....another_commander wrote:I have not done that yet, but if you want a challenge Tivva, just start from scratch every single time you get destroyed. You will appreciate how really difficult it is surviving in the Oolite universe.
it does get easier the more equipment you buy, but you need to earn the credits to buy it...
by the way I've kept all the oxp's installed so this time its even harder than a RAW basic start....

An interesting challenge... just how many ship hours/days could one survive?another_commander wrote:just start from scratch every single time you get destroyed.
I might have a go at that.

On the original C64 version of Elite having got to Elite I started again and got to Dangerous before - and I remember it distinctly - I got wiped out by an Boa that left the station just before I docked - I saw it launch, heaved on the stick but it was too late - even to eject - gutted...

Heh. Starting another pilot from scratch is what got me started writing Elite fiction. I had been Elite on the Spectrum then I got an Amiga and had to start all over again.
From there came a whole story about my pilot becoming Elite by using illegal weapons (i used the POKE cheats on the Speccy) then being caught and busted back down to Harmless again. I even wrote in a whole thing about his new ship being upgraded to a new visual display to explain the filled in graphics of the Amiga version!
Amazing how these things start.
I started again on Elite +, Oolite and Elite GBA. I think I have about seven different new commanders on Oolite, since I use them for testing. And yes, most of them are cheated up (only for testing though).
it never gets old though.

Hi Tivva,
if your old pilot feels like he wants to take another challenge after Assasins.oxp, I would kindly suggest Cataclysm.oxp as the next thing to do. It's just another two galactic jumps away.
