Alternatively, maybe Diziet can pick the set of three-four pics he likes most and use a sig that does not flicker. OK, there will be still images downloaded continuously, but at least the animation that may annoy people will be out of the way.

rss is pretty much newsgroups 2.0, although not as popular as all this php forum stuff everyone has these days

Personally I dont like images in signatures, or large signatures in general, and I disable them wherever I can. But at least for me, this hasnt yet become an issue here. I would like an option to disable signatures though, if one were made available.

There are phpbb "hacks" (code modifications) which can be installed into the board software to provide such functionality. But it of course has to be done by the board admins (presumably Giles in this case), and not something that is a user or even moderator job.

Specifically this one, which we run on t'other board I've mentioned before (as we had the same issue there), and it works fairly well for both sigs and animated avatars.

Hmm.. tough call to pick 3 or 4 favourites.. but I can do that.. I'll make a new (non-animated) one up soon.. 8)

Edit: Ok.. done.. what do you think?
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Better. :)

Although there is one detail that always has irritated me, and that's the line-break. Does it have to read:

-------------------------------------------------
Got Windows? Need to run trunk alongside 1.73? Click on the banner to get the latest 1.74.x trunk

installer.HUGE IMAGE
-------------------------------------------------

Couldn't the word "installer." move into the first line, and the image move to the left?

Hmm.. there is no line break.. would your screen be set to 800x600 by any chance? I think maybe I could fix that by shortening the line..

I get the same, on 1440x900 (widescreen).

I would say "there is no line break" is actually the problem. You need one between "installer." and the image.

Looks fine on my 1600x1200 work LCD.

One suggestion - flip the boa - so that its injector steam disappears off the left edge of image and does not end mid frame as it currently does.

Ok.. tried adding a CR after 'installer.' does that make a difference?

@DH, ok.. I may try that.. or extend the stream behind the Barbie Cobby..

Yup, the image is now below the text, rather than trying to be on the right hand side of it and the "installer." + image getting taken as a single entity and word-wrapped...

Although given I'm a laptop driver with a quite limited screen size anyway, for me it's just taking up valuable post-room and getting in the way, but thats my own personal issue, at least until any board hacks to let us turn off sigs comes into play.

Since the issue has come up… please make it quite a lot smaller.

Ok.. will do.. the current size was kind of an oops anyway.. (started with the wrong sized background and didn't realise)

Edit: ok, it's now the same size as Rustybolt's banner...

Anyways.. back to the IRC topic.. sorry for the hijack..
