Yes, that's also a company that sells products with ATI chipsets:

Maybe it helps. It didn't solve the speed problem with my 4870x2, but it solved quite some problems with wrong rendering. As I said, it might have been luck, but I'd give it a try if ATI original drivers won't install.

On the AMD/ATI forum other user(s) reported similar problems. Maybe you also want to have a look there:

Better not mention my name there in order not to get banned, too. If you are going to make a technical inquiry, probably it's best not only to do so with AMD/ATI but also with the company that used the ATI components to produce your hardware.

While ATI did not respond to my tech ticket, Asus did. Still I don't have a fix, but it appears that they are really investigating what's wrong.

Is there anyway I can turn off some rendering in 1.72.2 ?
That would at least give me something playable, even with software rendering.

Version 1.65 works with software rendering, although ridicoulously slow...

Look for this file (reporting my folder)
C:\Oolite\oolite.app\GNUstep\Defaults\.GNUstepDefaults

There is an entry:
"shader-effects-level" = <*I3>;

Try to set it to this:
"shader-effects-level" = <*I1>;

That's exactly the problem with software rendering: Even if you get it to render correctly, it will still be totally unplayable.

I don't think Screet's suggestion will help you at all. If you can't even get basic OpenGL support, changing the shader complexity level won't do you much good. Plus, shaders are not supported anyway, as your log shows.

That's exactly the problem with software rendering: Even if you get it to render correctly, it will still be totally unplayable.
I wouldn't say totally unplayable. It's approximatley the same quality as the original Elite. And that was playable, wasn't it :)

So, for me, it WOULD be playable with software rendering, since all the content is still there.

Applied the ATI Mobility Modder to the "normal" ATI Radeon HD 3400 drivers.

I'm afraid that they would otherwise consider it "harmless" and won't fix it soon (if at all). Adding it to the forum probably will only help by showing other users with the same problem how they could work around it until it's fixed and motivate them to report the problem also, thus increasing it's priority.
