Chaos Groove - 8 Bit Chaos Battle of the Wizards Remake.

Post by LittleBear »

Anybody remember Chaos on the ZX Spectrum?

A very good remake is available as freeware here:-

http://chaosgroove.wordpress.com/

Play against fellow geeks or the computer! Runs on all versions of Windows. The download is fully playable (and has some excelent Red Dwarf, Blackadder etc samples for spell sucess or failure). The author had ideas for enlarging it further but ran out of steam and has made the source code available, if anybody feels like adding an internet playable version! . The current version is still really good and can be played with other humans as well as computer controlled wizards. If you just want to play it, its a easy install (unzip and play).
OXPS : The Assassins Guild, Asteroid Storm, The Bank of the Black Monks, Random Hits, The Galactic Almanac, Renegade Pirates can be downloaded from the Elite Wiki here.

Chaos has a permanent place in my list of top 5 8-bit games (along with Elite, The Hobbit, Dizzy and Target Renegade) and it's good to see that it's still very well regarded today. While there are some java versions about, it's strange that no-one's tried to create a proper online multiplayer version - surely it would have little overhead in terms of graphics and processing and it's just the sort of strategy game (simple yet surprisingly deep) that's becoming increasingly popular.
Download Resistance Commander plus many other exciting OXPs HERE
