Sound effect sample ideas: Lasers.

Post by RustiSwordz »

The laser sounds need beefing up, two films to suggest samples from:

Terminator 2: The HK plasma weapon sounds from the opening war.

The black Hole: the laser beam sounds from the film.

Unless you feel like arranging the licensing deals, Oolite itself is not going to be distributed with sampled sound effects any time soon.

I agree.
Why sample from films, when we could make our own sounds!

I make a lot of electronic sounds as part of my main hobby (making electronic sounds), and thus have access to various its of software and quite a few nice synths.
I will have a go at making various laser sounds in the next few days.
Will .OGG files be the best format to use?

I'll stick them all together as a zip file somewhere, with a license stating that anyone can use them within Oolite as a default sound, or part of an .OXP

Any other sounds that anyone else wants?

I can barely code, and I definitely can't draw, but I CAN make silly noises ;-)

Ogg Vorbis is the only format supported by Oolite on all platforms.

Note that there are already several audio OXPs, and I have no intention of replacing the core Oolite sound effects at this time.

As I rember one of the sound packs (not Custom Sounds) has a rarther more meaty laser sound in it.
OXPS : The Assassins Guild, Asteroid Storm, The Bank of the Black Monks, Random Hits, The Galactic Almanac, Renegade Pirates can be downloaded from the Elite Wiki here.
