I'm fighting mega mambas at the moment. I can take one out if I get into a long range battle. But then the other 4 swarm round and batter me.

Might have to try taking 5 extra fuel tanks, witchspacing all the way and lots of rear laser practice...

What's an EMP missile? does it disable the ship it hits? If so then a 'bomb' that does the same thing over a large area would still fit in. Since it would disable the user's laser it would only be a defensive weapon so would be ok being cheap.
Ramirez has done an excellent OXP with some lovely new missiles and stuff that NPCs can use as well. You can get it here,

The EMP weapon knocks out their controls for about 30 or so seconds. Great for use on packs of pesty pirates!

Never seen that, but it would be a good modification to make the player energy bomb work like that - still (more or less) in the spirit of the original, but more realistic. Better still would be to vastly downgrade the power of both, since I'm not a fan of weapons that a puny little ship can carry being able to cause major damage to a military fleet without too much effort, but the game still has to be recognisably Elite.
Two comments there, the first well that is a Q-mine, that's precisely what it is and does. The second ........ Enola Gay.
The first isn't a Q-mine. You have to get out of the range of Q-mine, and it has the chain reaction effect. As for the second, it carries far greater implications than the Q-mine or E-bomb, neither of which leave anything nasty behind, and in any case the real thing cost a great deal more. There's a reason they haven't been used since then, but there's no reason for not sending a remote-controlled vehicle into the midst of an enemy fleet and having it drop a mine or bomb.

Now that's a nice idea, I suppose a Q-mine torpedo/cruise missile sort of thing, that you could launch from a distance. I would think very very expensive, about 60,000credits perhaps.

Ramirez has done the Q-missile, and it's god-expensive.
