I know it's another one of my posts about did x happen with the old Elite in quite the same way etc.
The truth is I am very interested in Oolite and it is a pure God-send, so these are NOT criticisms in any way, merely observational curiosities.
Do the Beam lasers seem to get hotter faster than the original Elite?
I first gained Elite status on the BBC B micro all those years ago, but even then I don't remember beams getting hot and hitting the red and cool-down phases so fast. I seem to have about 3-3.5s of laser before it needs a cooldown. I realise this is plenty enough to do damage etc etc but I just wondered if anyone thought the same.
Thanks in advance.
Hell, do beam lasers get hot faster or what ?

Hell yes! well it gets hotter than on the atari ST. on that machine i could pump my military out for a good five or six seconds to overheat and i could just kill a thargoid. its so much harder in oolite, but thast what they are going for, i think.

Pah! The beam laser is practically refrigerated compared to the military laser.
After an intense furball, I can flash-fry an egg on the barrel of my foreward gun. Heh, I lost count of the requests in here for laser coolers already...
At least the mil laser makes up for the heatup by putting out twice the punch at thrice the range. It's a sniper's weapon.
Learn to shoot it in short bursts, that'll keep it cool longer.

Well, in Oolite one military salvo still is sufficient to kill a thargoid. You just have to hit your target instead of missing it.Jack_H wrote:Hell yes! well it gets hotter than on the atari ST. on that machine i could pump my military out for a good five or six seconds to overheat and i could just kill a thargoid. its so much harder in oolite, but thast what they are going for, i think.
