Following the recategorisation of the Oolite Wiki, I noticed the Racing Teams had their own category. Here's a great opportunity for budding OXpers to practice their texture creating skills. The concept is simple:
Design a series of ship textures to match the Racing Team liveries!
There are twenty three teams, each with an individual colour scheme and team number. The challenge is to create a simple and effective colour scheme for each ship type that the team uses. All entries will be added to the teams' entry on the Wiki. As an addition, if you can think up some interesting trivia to be submitted with your entry, that'll be included.

The rules:
The ships that you can use are detailed in the databoxes on each team entry, but I have added the team's names, ship types, colour schemes and numbers below. You can also (if you wish) include support vessels of the following types: Pythons (original, 'Dream Team', ET Special or PCC), Boa, BCC or Anaconda.
<EDIT> Please note, this is simply a colour scheme challenge, I'm not asking for new ship designs or tweaks. Just something that could be wrapped around the basic models of the ships mentioned in the entries above and below. Also note that any applicable 'Dream Team' ships maybe used.

Would you like to step up and take one of the teams on? Considering the wild and wacky paint schemes on your 'Pimp my Cobra' entries, I'm sure you could set the mark for others to meet.

I had an idea a while ago for some script and AIs for a WackyRaces.oxp. Like to use Giles's racing rings and Heritic and Murgh's racering ships, giving them piolt entries and have them race round a circuit in a particular system. (Have a news broadcast first to announce the start of the racing season). Think I know how with AI to get them running round the track and have the Ring's AI award positions. Should work for the player too, so you could win a small price for winning races. Some race police ships (no cheating by lasering up the opposition!) and a marshel ship would also be cool if people feel like doing them. For coding reasons I'm gonna have a ship that hails the player when he comes in range that the race will start in 1 minute). If you get to the 1st ring within 1 minute, the race will start with the player as a competitor, if not, the NPCs will set off on their own.

Sounds good, LB. There could even be news or sports camera ships in the form of modified Hatchling BoyRacers with hull mounted cameras and distinctive colour schemes.

Anyway LB, could I interest you in knocking out a team livery?

Don't think I have the artistic skill (and there's 6 or 7 nice paint jobs out there already that could be used to start it off). I don't mind don't the scripting / AIs to put it into an OXP that would show off the teams as they come in. I could have (say) 10 competitors in each race and give each the role "wacky_racer". As more designs are done, they can be C&Ped in and added to the pack of racers that can appear.
