Vajo: the incident in question was that the zipped archive of Sung's complete texture pack was too big to be hosted on the OOsat distribution site. One of the members cropped it down and removed some files, one of which was some sort of disclaimer file. Sung took offence and assumed that the member had done this to try to remove Sung's name from the work. Although the member assured him that this was not the case and apologised, Sung saw fit to remove his work and end his association with this forum. In addition, Sung felt that his textures deserved to be used in the actual release of the game and was incenced when they were relegated to simply an OXP. I don't know if the topics are still in existance. I know they were locked. I don't really want to drag it all up again, since it's in the past.
Xaron: seriously, I wish you and Sung both the best of luck. The graphics look lovely and the designs of the ships look simple and elegant. I look forward to seeing the work in progress. Are you intending to have the pilot be able to walk around inside the ships? I only ask since seeing the lovely internal model of a bridge that Sung posted...
I love open source, and I think Oolite does it well. One or two people in overall charge with a dedicated community of contributors. The open ended nature of the engine allows contributors to add what they want to add!
Edit: Incidentally, Xaron, I do think there should be an english version of the site/game too. A lot of non-German speakers will want to keep an eye on this...
New Oolite version?

Thank you!
Yep, there are advantages for open source, I know.
And yes, there will be definitely an english version of the site/game and forums. At the moment we just started, so I was very suprised to find the link in this forum. This might increase the pressure to create an english site.
Walking inside the ship might be possible, but not from the beginning. What's more likely is to let the player take a look around inside the cockpit.
BTW: I'm not new to game development but this is still a hobby for me, so the progress might be slow. Please don't take it as a competitive product. I guess there will be some "differences".

No, but the thread was destroyed along with the evidence about CH's extortion schemes by the misconfigured phpBB autopruner.
But never mind that, it's past and all we want is to have fun.
EDIT: I was wrong, it wasn't deleted after all! I've been searching and found the thread, you can READ ALL ABOUT IT!
Whatever. They were his work, and if he decided to remove it there's nothing we can do. Let's just move on!

You can read all the thread, but things started to go sour on page 9.Sung wrote:It is not my intent to make an OXP. My intent was that the development of Oolite is going on. To make the textures was an advertisment. If this hadn't work, i was going to load it up to Oosat2 for hosting with story and credits.Ahruman wrote:The proper way to distribute a texture modification set would be as an OXP, and I’m sure Giles never intended to limit people in which OXPs they were “allowed” to make.

You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?
I'm obviously not one of them.

Welcome, Xaron, to one of the friendliest (well, I think so) forums on the 'net.
I'm interested/envious in the work you are doing and hope there will be an English text version for us mono-linguists (and some of us don't even qualify for that!).
Oh, and ignore the many andtrue spurious comments regarding my crimes legitimate trading activities.

Lets not start all that again peeps!!! Whatever project we contribute to we all do it for fun and 'cos we love Elite!
@Vajo. Suprised that you thought there's only a few textures out there. Check out the Wiki at this Link http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Oolite_Main_Page
If you go to the "Ships" page, you'll find links to the new ships. The "Stations" page will take you to the to links for new stations and the OXP page will take you to links for the Mission OXPs and also a list of all OXPs in alphabetical order.
If you decide to install everything then you'll have over 200 ships in the Ooniverse with loads of different stations and over 60 missions to do. Different Authors have different Styles. Murgh for example goes for a very classic Elite look whereas Charlie's ships tend to have loads of flashing lights and sub-entries.
I play with everything installed (including Sung's texts) as I like variety, but just pick the ones you like the look of and have fun!
If you like the Classic Ships with repainted textures, you really should install the Dark Wheel Cobra (an alternative Cobra III) and Pimped Ships (Lots of new skins for Sidewinders, Mamba's and Karits). All the OXPs work together so you don't lose (say Sung's texts) by putting another OXP in you just get lots of different ships. (EG some sidewiders will be Classic, some Sung's, sum A_H's and so on). I like the fact that they don't all look the same and you encounter lots of different "paint jobs" on the ships you meet!
Links to all the Mission OXPs are here:-
http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Oolite_Missions
PS: Here's a few screenies of some ships by Griff and Ramon. Think you'll agree there not all the same!
BattleBot Control Drone:-
BattleBot MK I:-
Deamon Class Cruiser
Scorpion Friggate:-
Armoured VIP Transport (Here shown in Zero-G Hocky Team Paint Job!)
(Grabs not to scale - obviously!)
