Lovecats question. File extension question + won't start

Been playing for a bit. Recently finished the Thargoid plans mission in Gal 3 and got my reward. Got bored with blowing up pirates and harvesting booty, so I installed a bunch of OXP's, hit my galaxy hyperdrive, and off to Galaxy 4 I went.

Clean
Dangerous (1812 kills)
fully loaded Cobra Mk III

I installed the Lovecats.oxp and noted that the file extension was .oxp_ rather than .oxp only. No mission started after a few planets, so I went to the add ons file again and removed the _ from the end of the .oxp extension. Still no mission after a few different planets.

Am I doing something wrong?

Think you also have to have finished the Nova and Constrictor missions before lovecats starts. Could play Deposed though in G4 as that just needs you to have 1700+ kills.

Was reading the Wiki and noted that I haven't finished the Nova mission yet. When does that start? Guess I'll have to fly around for a bit more.

I need to buy a new galactic hyperdrive? Oh goodie. Will it be used to take me out of Gal 4? I wanted to play Lovecats and Deposed and don't want to have to go all the way around the series of galaxies to get back to 4 again to play them.

I've been away from the forum for a while, moving to another continent, haven't got ADSL at home yet and have quite a bit on. But, I do plan on making a few changes to Lovecats, the AI for the bad guys, and the graphics screens.

Fraid there's no way round it, you are very strongly advised to complete Nova before loading the Deposed OXP, otherwise they are likely to conflict with each other. It's fine if you are happy to edit your saved games, but if like me you'd rather avoid that, then you'll have to go the long way round. Providing you have enough dosh, it doesn't take too long.

Loaded the galactic hyperdrive in my Cobra. Got about 200,000 cr, so the $$$ isn't the problem. Did the nova mission. Pretty straightforward (say "yes", leave system, land). Going back to the blowed up system for a peek was interesting.

On Lovecats now, the guy is at esarqure, but I can't find him. Went to the sun, went to the station, went all over the darn place. No guy. I'll keep looking.

OK, I found him and got him to eject. Then, I smeared him across the front of my Cobra when I tried to scoop him. Twice.

Damn...
