I noticed that expansion downloads are noticeably faster in OoliteStarter than in the builtin expansion manager. Not sure why so - that is likely an internal bottleneck in Oolite.
Good for measuring is the 130 MB expansion "Lave is Earth" https://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Lave_is_Earth_8k

Is that for both appimage and Flatpak? I wonder what the bottleneck could be.hiran wrote: ↑Sat Feb 21, 2026 7:54 pmI noticed that expansion downloads are noticeably faster in OoliteStarter than in the builtin expansion manager. Not sure why so - that is likely an internal bottleneck in Oolite.

Re: Expansion Download speed
I tested OoliteStarter vs Flatpak and strongly believe it is not the packaging.mcarans wrote: ↑Sat Feb 21, 2026 8:34 pmIs that for both appimage and Flatpak? Re: Expansion Download speed
Downloading https://wiki.alioth.net/img_auth.php/6/ ... urcesA.oxz (85 MiB) takes less then 5 seconds on my connection .
Using the install option from within the game that same oxz takes a few minutes .
My impression is that the network code used for downloading in the oolite sourcecode is very slow or has to pass through several very slow intermediaries ?

Re: Expansion Download speed
Just to make the check complete, would you like to download https://github.com/OoliteProject/OoliteStarter and install the same expansion from there?Lone_Wolf wrote: ↑Sat Feb 21, 2026 9:21 pmDownloading https://wiki.alioth.net/img_auth.php/6/ ... urcesA.oxz (85 MiB) takes less then 5 seconds on my connection .

Re: Expansion Download speed
Downloaded generic tar.gz, configuring took some effort.
Downloading lave is 8k took under 10 sec, comparable speed as PF resources direct from elite wiki.

Yes, that and the above matches my observation.
