Colourful Thargoids

Post by phkb »

This small OXP tweaks the look of the default Thargoid Warship and Robot Fighters. First, it adds the normal and specular maps currently incorporated into 1.91. But also, both the Warship and the Robot Fighters will have a neon lighting effect added to them which changes colour over time. When the Robot fighters go inactive, the colour will disappear.

Also, I noticed that if you have Griff's Organic Thargoids installed, a standard Warship could spawn an organic Robot Fighter, which seemed incongruent. So I've added a tweak that will force a standard Warship to spawn standard Robot Fighters.

Some screenshots (static, I'm sorry)

FWIW, they look much better in game.

Here's a link for the download: ColourfulThargoids.oxz
If there are no bug reports, I'll add this to the manager shortly. I don't think the changing colours add too much overhead to the game, but please chime in if you notice significant slow downs or stutters after installing it.

Comments and suggestions welcome.

BTW, there is no "lore" for this. I just think it looks cool!

Bug fix v1.1 - a case of the "I'll-just-make-this-change-real-quick-before-release" followed soon after by "Oops-I-broke-something".

Same link as above.

Nicer.

Not having tried it yet that would be my only concern. They look washed out here.
I think they look less threatening with the apparent desaturation that has resulted.
Maybe there doesn't need to be so much bleed from the neon lines.

I've tried to frame the criticism in a way that you can consider even if they do look much better in game.

This is all rather tremendous. I should check the compatibility with my OXPs.
