Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Just wondering: surely instead of pitching/yawing along two axes these ships should have a triangulated three axes of manoevurability?

And is there vocabulary which better describes what I'm trying to say?

You wouldn't be assuming a non-fixed cockpit would you by any chance?
Or a similar three axes to be present in the make-up of the pilot perhaps?

The basic idea behind the Queensnake is a ship whose main characteristic is speed and a particularly economical and effective fuel injector and an average cargo capacity of 30 ct.

When we get the ship up and running together, I'll try to add an interesting background story and a custom HUD, but that for sure will take some time because I'm a bit busy with work at the moment.

Coluber Pitviper: Notable features

In Riredian culture and religion the numbers 3, 6 and 9 are very meaningful and this has had great influence on the design. 
(Eg. the Pitviper Vindicator can carry 27 (3*9) missiles; has 9 energy banks; has 3 engines; etc.)

The Pitviper comes with its own specially Coluber-designed HUD. 
You will notice that following the Riredian prediliction for trinities, that the HUD is split into 3 sections from left to right. 
And that both left and right-hand sections are further split into 3 vertically. 
It is rumoured that Coluber's engineers spent many fruitless hours attempting to further subdivide the IFF Scanner to achieve a perfect trinity of trinities, but their efforts proved unavailing.
Looks more like a 2/4/8 catamaran to me! (Or possibly 2.5/5/10)

Yes, I am even absolutely sure the Queen Snake is a true member of the coluber family of snakes. Look here: Queen Snake

And yes, i´m also absolutely sure the hull of the Queen Snake - other than the hull of the Pitviper - for the main part is not a typical insectoid design and also not influenced by the riredian culture. (Well, at least not much.)

As told, the Pitviper was the result of a joint-venture between Coluber Inc. and the riredian gouvernment who was intrested in the production of a new corvette-class warship for their navy.

But this is not true for the coluber racers or the queen snake. These designs were made by Coluber inc. alone. But, of course, the commercialy very sucsessful piviper has left some clearly visible marks on design of the queen snake, i can´t deny that. Nevertheless, the queen snake is mainly a very fast cargohauler, not a designated combat vessel like the pitviper.
