Re: Screenshots
Ah yes, I thought that was an interesting shipset (I quite liked the python if I remember) but they all showed up rather dark on my PC.
Hard to visualise them now (as it sort of was then...)
I really like how you've inverted the front part to also cover the back, thereby maintaining the forward pointing chevrons/arrows of the original design. It lines up almost perfectly and the angle mirrors the vents/barbs (as originaly intended ).
In fact I like this so much I'm tempted to retexture in similar fashion, adding some modelling detail to suit.
In many cases I'm not really a fan of the normalmap method of adding detail as opposed to modelling it (on this ship, I only used it for the logos). Take a normalmapped ship sunskimming and you'll likely see what I mean - the detail disappears under even moderately high illuminatuion. Reflecting glare would be realistic perhaps but looking flat isn't.
Modelling is more time and resource consuming but it can be done retroactively as I showed with this remodel based on a Deepspace adder where I modelled around the original texture (note detailing on engines and 'roof')...
Are you retexturing the entire game?!
Impressive work.
Re: Screenshots
Normal mapping can add believable depth on large surfaces, but not on all viewable angles
(the normalmap from the lightspeeder was bw?)
Modelling details do impose more impact, like on those wip Gsas-stations.

it does make the logos stand out positive !(on this ship, I only used it for the logos)

Eh, no but I do find the collaging the most relaxed part of modellingAre you retexturing the entire game?!

Re: Screenshots
IIRC it was a largely a grey metal texture layer with white logos in various fonts.
The idea was to put a subtle, metallic graininess on the otherwise organic looking texture (likely too subtle) whilst making the logos stand out as you noticed. It was my first ship texture so I was trying out a few ideas at once, with varying degrees of success.

Re: Screenshots
If you are retexturing the entire game, personally speaking (for myself and my dance school), we'd greatly appreciate a new texture for GSAgostinho's Moon base - https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=18977, it looks like a realistic station apart from it's bizarre colour. I understand the Gewürtzing Gavotters would be greatly grateful...

Re: Screenshots
Retexturing means there should be a texture ( and uvmap(ped) ) to begin with, which isn't ( unfortunately )Cholmondely wrote: ↑Sun Jun 20, 2021 11:40 pmIf you are retexturing the entire game, personally speaking (for myself and my dance school), we'd greatly appreciate a new texture for GSAgostinho's Moon base - https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=18977, it looks like a realistic station apart from it's bizarre colour. 2) Does anyone know where the surround for this F6F6 page comes from? It's not XenonUI or Vanilla game.

Re: Screenshots
The map surround has to be BGS (X-Mapping, or something by Svengali). I had it once upon a time.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

From an earlier version of BGS, though, not the current one.

Re: Screenshots
<nods> From the X-Mapping extension to BGS 1.10 (or thereabouts), I think. Way back in 2013/2014.
