Elves tire wolf

Post by Cody »

That really should be wolves - yes? Or are wolfs not wolves? <grins> It occurs nine times in planetinfo.plist (I've changed mine).

I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Given that Oolite takes place eight centuries in the future, it's only remarkable that English is so well-preserved ;-) Maybe it's thanks to the automated translators that convert the myriads of alien dialects into your own dialect.

Perhaps they are evil because they attempt to corrupt the language. 8)

Clearly there has been some linguistic drift over the centuries, and what they are now calling "tree wolfs" are the creatures that, in a more primitive time and place, were known as "drop bears". :D
"Sidewinder Precision Pro" and other Oolite fiction is now available for Amazon Kindle at a bargain price.

Sidewinder Precision Pro ||Claymore Mine ||The Russian Creed ||One Jump Ahead

All titles also available in paperback.

Both logical and utterly plausible! 8)
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

This is actually mildly ;) close to the truth. (Except its a generator rather than translator.)

A planet might be "\x82\x81 for \x8A but \x88 by \x89"

where..
\x82 --> "very ", "mildly ", "most ", "reasonably ", ""
\x81 --> "fabled", "notable", "well known", "famous", "noted"
\x88 --> "beset", "plagued", "ravaged", "cursed", "scourged"
etc..

\x89 --> "\x96 civil war", "\x9B \x98 \x99s", "a \x9B disease", "\x96 earthquakes", "\x96 solar activity"
\x9B --> "killer", "deadly", "evil", "lethal", "vicious"
\x98 --> "\x9B", "mountain", "edible", "tree", "spotted"
\x99 --> "\x9F", "\xA0", "\x87oid", "\x93", "\x92"
\x9F --> "shrew", "beast", "bison", "snake", "wolf"

Which begs the question, just what is the tree wolfing down? :lol:

Haven't you read your Tolkein? The trees are Ents, and Ents wolf wolves.

:lol: Well played, sir!

I must've mis-read.. all this time, I thought Ents ate orcs and goblins. :wink:

Well those orcs and goblins did ride wolves, but wolfing seems a bit hasty to me. Surely an ent would feel that anything worth eating is worth taking a long time to eat.

Fictional lovelies. Sort of like low-tech Thargoids.
