Yes, I think I am thinking of (encountering in-game) the Killer Wolf one from Isis Interstellar - you know, the OXP that adds the 'vampire' ships - that I'm thinking of.

I like the chunky-look, and stats, of that Cobra MK IV, but I really like the look of your new one too, gsagostinho.

How to square the existence of these different Cobbie-4s? Perhaps if you ensure that the ship identifier (in shipdata) of your version is different to the Killer Wolf one, that's all you need to, aside from stick a message in the readme (or equivalent) saying that someone else got there first and that (given the lack of license) you haven't used his code or designs.

Killer Wolf made it in Isis Interstellar as a predecessor of King Cobra. Unfortunately both KW and the official homepage are missing long time ago, moreover there is no license in the package.
Well, this was bound to happen I suppose. I always try to figure out if someone is currently working or has worked on something similar to my current plans, but given how many years this community has and how many extensions exist out there, it can be difficult to find certain things out. The wiki and in-game extension managers are my top places to search, and I could not find any mentions of such Cobra Mk. IV before.

If in this case I have not follow some sort of etiquette when creating a new OXP, I do apologize for it, but I would also be happy if someone would please clarify to me what could I have done differently.

If you mean from a technical point of view, then there is no problem. The way Oolite handles textures is basically by defining new ships for each texture. All the 9 textures in this OXP here (and their NPC versions) have quite individual names starting with "gsagostinho", so there is zero chance of conflict with whatever the other OXP has defined as ship names. Now if you mean how to explain why the Ooniverse has two Cobras Mk. 4, then I don't know except to say that you don't need to install both OXPs.

But someone got what first, simply named a ship? If anything, the inspiration for such heavier Cobra comes from Elite Dangerous, where Frontier did create a Mk. IV which is a heavier but better shielded version of the Mk. III. I am 100% of the time giving credits to absolutely all authors I base my work on (in this case, it has been only Griff with his model and original textures) but given that I was unaware of the existence of such OXP up to now I don't see why this would be necessary nor how the person would be credited. Could you please clarify to me why you think that is necessary?

I don't think you need to be concerned. As Norby noted, KW's OXP's aren't generally available any more, and they were released without a licence anyway. For those players who still have a copy of KW's MkIV, there is no conflict between KW's and yours (I just checked) - his are named "Cobra MkIV", while yours are named "Cobra Mark IV". There are no other conflicts, as you haven't used any of his material in your OXP, and your OXP is licensed with accreditation noted in the pack. So relax. No need to change anything. :D

No one expects OXP developers to check on OXP's you can't access any more.

I think if you will create a wiki page then mention that this is not KW's ship and put a link to the Isis page where the other is available.
Alternatively you can rename your ship to Mark V what I never seen, the King Cobra is numbered as Mk VI.

Thank you so much for checking this, great to know there are no conflicts.

This is a good idea, I will add a phrase like this.

Edit: done, the phrase is on the wiki already.

Yeah, I am not a big fan of changing it though. As I said, this ship is actually based on Elite Dangerou's Cobra Mark IV and personally I think it really makes sense keeping it like this.

Hi!
As this is a new ship you should add it to the shiplibrary.
Thanks.

I don't seem to be able to find this beauty in the Add on Manager or even an OXP version of it, Which is a shame as I would like to take your Cobra Mk IV out for a few Milk Runs between Isinor and Qutiri. :)

Hi Duggan, the OXP is named "gsagostinho's Cobra Mk. IV" and is in the category Ship. You can try pressing the "f" key in the expansion manager then filtering the results by "k:gsagostinho" without the quotation marks. I think I added my username to the OXP title because there was another Cobra Mk. IV around, but now in hindsight perhaps I shouldn't have done so. Anyway, please take a second and see if you find the ship and report here any issues.

I have just uploaded a new version of this OXP.

02/12/2017 - Version 1.4:
- tweaked the ship roles.
- reformatting of shipdata.plist (thanks, Rustem!).

In particular, I have modified the roles for the NPC versions of the Cobra Mk. IV:

NPC pirate:
roles = "pirate-medium-freighter(0.5) pirate-medium-fighter(0.5) pirate-heavy-fighter(0.3)";

NPC trader:
roles = "trader(0.75) trader-courier(0.5) trader-smuggler(0.75) hunter-medium(0.6) hunter-heavy(0.6) escort-heavy(0.5)";

I have removed the scavenger and aegis raider roles, and added the escort-heavy and pirate-heavy-fighter roles (given that the Mk. IV is far tougher than the Mk. III).

First off - I love this ship.
I've been chopping and changing ships quite a bit of late (as I'm putting off buying a Dark Rainbow out of fear that it will make the game too easy).
I wanted something with speed and decent handling - my last three ships were a Carrier, Python CC (doesn't fit into space dock) and a regular python (still an excellent all rounder)
I was considering a Cruzer or a Boa Clipper(again) and then thought about the Cobbie IV, this way I'll be able to carry Krait size derelicts on my escort deck (If I can ever get a pilot to bail out before it blows up).
The Cobbie IV really is a great ship with a considerable amount of cargo.

The one thing I have struggled with is ship respray. From being new I named my new Cobbie "Red Mist" with the intention of using the red, black and white skin.
Each time I select my chosen paint scheme it displays an image of what my cobbie should look like now.
I then take off and find that I still have the white with blue paint scheme that the ship came with

Can I ask if this ship is compatible with the Ship Respray oxp?

Has anyone else had any difficulty using ship respray with this oxp?
O.C.T.D (Oolite Crash Test Dummy) Hmm Hmm Hmm Hmm......

Well, it should be, but I haven't actually tested this specific possibility. I'll try it out and report back.

OK, looks like this was me. My code change for Ship Storage Helper appears to be the culprit. Can't do a proper debug session right now, but I'll get an update out before the end of the day.

@Damocles Edge First, thanks a lot for what you wrote, I am happy you enjoy the ship! I have hardly flown anything else since I came up with this OXP 8)

I never had a problem with that before, can you give us more information about the issue? I just tested it and it all seems to be working for me. I will try updating all my OXPs and see if there are any conflicts.
