I Couldn't Resist

Post by CaptSolo »

North American winters are the worst and this year is no exception. After clearing this section of sidewalk, I had a Star Wars inspiration: The Death Star trench made of snow.

Oh Ye, could of done with that sort of craft in the south of England in the 80's. Was going to a wedding, between 5 feet and 9 of snow either side of the road.
Not the scariest though.

Coming down out of the Cairngorms, 12 feet snow either side. 3 wheel tracks. So your sharing the driver side wheel track with oncoming. Remember, Freezing, ice and snow blowing over your head, your in a man made ravine with three tracks in the ice.. And Yup.. Incoming car trying to make it up over on the other direction. I'm going down so brakes are a joke. If he stops, he's reversing all the way down. With the weight of my car pushing him. Gravity can be a bitch.

Any way.. Not what happened.

I have no idea what he was driving, but I had a 1500 front wheel drive, I wrenched it full left lock and gave power hoping it would drag me out the middle track. I was looking at him coming up and knew he knew what I was trying. He put full left lock on and kept coming. I could see this in that instant. Seen his eyes on me and his steering wheels turning. There was no stopping.

I don't know all the factors like man made ravine, square sides, over passing fast air causing a vacuum. On coming air push.

Anyway, our cars didn't touch, not even mirrors.

Though my left side got a good clean from the snow wall, even the hub caps. If you have ever driven in snow conditions, you know how mucky your car gets.

Still wonder. What was so important that he would chance that road in they conditions? When I started from my side it was dodgy but doable. His side, they knew it was being closed. I asked the police that were there when I got down. He must have went through just before they got there to close the road.

Then, no car wreak in the spring. He must have made it. Still wonder though. Why take such a risk?

What would make you drive into a Cairngorm snow storm?
LOOK OUT!!!
