Correct! I enjoyed the trilogy - quite like Iain M. Banks in some respects (although she's definitely doing her own thing). But if you like IMB's Culture novels then you'll probably enjoy Anne Leckie's books too.

Over to you for the next question …

First I'd heard of them.. a quick google check later, wow.. cool concept.. will have to get them!

Ancillary Justice is the third book in this excellent series. So, going strictly by Disembodied's question, this is not the correct answer.

No, Ancillary Justice is the first book (the second is Ancillary Sword and the third is Ancillary Mercy). I suppose technically they're three books in the "Imperial Radch" trilogy, but it's common practice to name a series after the first book (and I'm not sure if the author or publisher actually uses a series name). There's a good overview of the first book here for anyone interested.

They guard the Fifth Element, I believe, or is it all five - long time since I watched the film. Great bit of fun it is as well :)
They are an alien race, by the way.

<Waves hand frantically about>

Me, Sir! Me?

<clears throat>

That'd be the personnel transporter to the moon in 2001 A Space Odyssey, Sir!

<sniff>

<sniff>

Uhhh, Sir? You did remember to desolve two ounces of gun cotton in the juice, didn't you? It smells ... I don't know ... uhhhhh ..... nice? :wink:

Indeed it is the little moon-shuttle thingy from 2001. Well done Sir, and over to you.
The Evil-juice recipe is a secret. Secret even to me up to a point as I use that wierd stuff that mysteriously grows overnight in the overflow of my wash basin, then mix it with acetone and add a splash of tree-grub urine to taste.

Ahhh, I see. I guess that's why I only use the shop-bought stuff. The gun-cotton wasn't my idea, by the way. My uncle once used it in his mix, took a sniff and promptly keeled over.

Anyway.

Being 'sent to Coventry' in the UK means being shunned or ostracised.

Who, according to Robert A. Heinlein, were banned to Coventry?

My uncle? Oh, he is doing a lot better now. Doctors say that he'll get his eyesight back soon. :roll: :lol:

recognised the name but havent read for years ,so i D/L last night and read it.... thought it was going to be an elaborate con to "treat" those sent there and it kind of turned out that way.
The main character self healing as it were...

P.S. Hope your uncle gets his sight back soon.... evil juice can do that to you...

We have a winner!!!!

:) :D :) :D :) :D :) :D :) :D

The CismoFiCo has just left for a return flight to you! I didn't touch the evil juice, because ... well .... my uncle, you see? Mind you, it does seem to corrode the jug so it might be best if you finish it off quickly.

And thanks for your concerns regarding my uncle. But you may be relieved to know that although he has lost his sight, he hasn't lost the big grin on his face so we can safely assume that 'and if my uncle says he is happy, he must be happy, he must be happy in his work'. :wink:

Extra flagon of Ottasmanian Evil Juice for the person who can identify the song.

damn, the jug didnt hold and half the carpet has been eaten. the floor plating on The CismoFiCo is a bit dodgy too now so be careful where you tread.

ok , your question for 80 is. Which book by the afore mentioned Mr Heinlen was recently turned into a movie? No NOT starship Troopers.....
