Another Suggestion - Head Lights!

Post by GMWeezel »

One thing that would make a great addition would be head lights. Docking on the dark side of a planet can be a litte nerv racking and head lights could eliminate the need for shiny canisters or boxes around them. Maybe though instead of head lights it could be infrared light so that all non planetary objects turn red. Would make finding canisters easier, night side docking easier as well as fighting in space on the opposite side of the sun. But if some one were to use headlights instead of infrared (assuming any one does this at all) make sure to have the AI ships use them as well as not to take away from the effect of the game.

Except that headlights don't really work on long ranges (like dozens of km).

But someone once talked about a vector view. Sort of like the image enhancer in Mechwarrior 2 (computer game) or even like the original Elite, which was lines drawing only. Then you can see what is going on, even if there's no glorious coloured textures.

Best wishes,
Oscar

That would be a cool nod to the original game... nice idea!

According to the Elite/Oolite universe (ooniverse?) the view we see is not actually a direct one through a transparent panel, due to the risks of blindness from suns or laser flares. Instead the view we see is computer generated from cameras placed around the ship, which is one of the reasons you can actually see anything when in the shadow of a planet.

I am all up for different view modes though, a little like AvP2.
The act of talking b*ll*cks whilst waving one's arms about wildly is referred to as testiculation.

Possibly expanding on the 'Advanced Targeter' idea - the vector view ovvldc mentioned would be even better. It'd also look cool.
