Docking issues

Post by tomythius »

Hi all.
I'm fairly new to oolite but have been really enjoying it.
At first I could dock no problem, now I'm stuck on Quitri with 400 (ish) Cr without being able to dock anywhere else.
I can navigate to other space stations ok, but once I'm in the box I get game over instead of docking rings.
Any idea why this might be happening? It's driving me nuts.

you did line up at the beacon, request docking clearance, looked in your rearview-viewer and slowed down to half speed before entering the dockingbay?

Otherwise, you may want to run a debug and send giles the output-files and your version-number etc.

Thanks for a quick response.
How do I request clearance? I didn't need to at first...

He's having you on.

Which ship are you currently using? And do you get 'banging' noises when you enter the box?

Gah!
Should have known. I did actually try checking behind me just now.
I'm in the default cobra mkIII with missiles (on safety) and 6t of cargo.
No banging, just a 'gurt-big crash' accompanied by the game over message.

Sorry I did not mean to tease.

Try reducing the speed, it may not be neccesary but helps prevent unnecesary damage.

I imagine you tried that already, so still a puzzling occurence.
It is not something simple like trying to land on the wrong side of the station right? (Dont get mad, some people actually try that and it is a simple mistake to make in some systems where the sun is behind the planet.)

I think it's the correct side.
I see a letterbox type thing with a row green lights down each inside wall and a set of four orange lights arranged in a cross at the end. Speed doesn't seem to be an issue.
Could it be a bug? I'm running the latest stable for linux on SUSE, AMD64.
I seem to remember there were some instructions regarding AMD64, but I was so keen to get going I may have skipped them. Could they be relevant?

Since you say that you used to be able to dock with no problems, this will be a stupid question for sure, but are you sure you match the rotation of the docking slit when you approach it? :?

OK, after much ado I've managed to dock at Lave.
This was on a clean game (not a save-file) and was just out and in.
Beginning to think it is just my technique. Must have had beginners luck before.
