Unfortunately, the game (wisely) does not permit OXPs to mess with Trumbles..ffutures wrote:Pet rock - they start off at 1 ton; if your ship is ever infected by a Trumble it will eventually eat it, but grow to occupy another ton of cargo space.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Must admit, I was never a fan of pole-dancing until I came across her debut performance on Ukraine's Got Talent.

She seems to be able to defy gravity! Remarkable. Perhaps it's the helium balloons strapped to her chest

Re: Bling
Hi! Party crasher here. I've noticed that the "money sink" theme is a recurring topic. It seems there are various ongoing efforts to solve this, some involving less 'fun' stuff like increased maintenance costs.
I'd like to see 'solutions' that actually add 'tangible' things to the game for the money removed from the bank account. The main problem when looking for possible solutions is that we have a hard time not coming up with things that either directly or indirectly allow to make more money - except for this attempt which doesn't add to much to the game except for those really into role play (not that virtual luxury is irrelevant, but it is by definition accessible only to the richer commanders).
I'd like to share some of the ideas I've came up with. Unfortunately they are far less 'sexy' than the ones suggested in this thread:
To me, probably the ultimate 'bling' is to own a whole station. Of course it has to have a tremendous cost, so one cannot just buy it as a whole right away. One starts with buying (expensive) shares, which generates a small revenue based on the trade taking place there. A player could increase his/her revenue by trading preferably with this station, or by escorting traders in the system (make sure they arrive and unload). The player can then afford to buy more shares, and therefore start to buy the station piece by piece so to speak. Owning more and more shares could grant some of the advantages listed above like free docking or viper escorts. Ultimately, the player owns the whole station, which should generate a lot of cash but then: what's better than owning a station? Owning two stations! One has still to find some way to slowdown the snowball effect though (Thargoids, Trumble infestations might make it a risky investment), and why not have a reverse snowball effects (Galcops could heavy-fine the station itself for illegal goods trade for instance (assuming the player has a way to prevent it in the first place)).

- speed limits fines. It is forbidden to use Torus on the lanes, so if you get mass locked by a patrol, you get a fine (indexed on your current fortune of course). One may introduce other fines like entering Aegis with weapons enabled.
- Escape pod comes with a monthly insurance fee (decrease upfront price; various contract options; I think this has been suggested before),
- Docking fees in exchange for higher docking priority (a propos, why is there docking priorities but no launch priorities?),
- station VIP membership: when you enter a system, the station welcomes you and sends a couple of vipers to escort your ship (this one actually does make the game easier), and/or private quarters in the station (more blingy) etc.

Someone dancing in a bikini is "sexually oriented"?Fatleaf wrote:Could we please not post sexually oriented videos. We are a family forum and there are young eyes here.

Re: Bling
It reads like someone assumed without following the link. Miss Sokolova is impressively strong, but I find nothing sexy about her performances, which are more in the realm of gymnastics than stripper pole. Now this is proper sexy dance:Diziet Sma wrote:Someone dancing in a bikini is "sexually oriented"?Fatleaf wrote:Could we please not post sexually oriented videos. On topic, if y'all want a real money sink, planetary real estate or a share market could drain the deepest coffers.

Re: Bling
Well, if you are looking for that sort of thing the internet is full of places you can go. It would be nice to have at least one place which is free of it. As Pole Dancing is designed for strip joints its purpose is to be sexually oriented. Yet to see a pole at any beach I have visited.Diziet Sma wrote:Someone dancing in a bikini is "sexually oriented"?

Re: Bling
I find that sexually orientation is all in the mind. One persons needful thing is anothers strange thing embarrassingly slapping its bits about. The other problem of getting back on topic is the unfortunate fact that this is on topic. A way of showing status throughout the animal kingdom is closely tied to how many mates you have. As such it is historically (however ethically and progressively unsound in a modern society) an indication of "bling".Diziet Sma wrote:Someone dancing in a bikini is "sexually oriented"?Fatleaf wrote:Could we please not post sexually oriented videos. Yet another good reason not to bother and focus on oxps that enhance instead of embellish.
