Rock hermit tunnel graphics
For some time now there have been good graphics on launching and docking at a main station, the rectangular metal tunnel etc., but rock hermits are still a bit minimal - the approach to the asteroid is beautiful, then you suddenly get the old coloured tunnel, not much changed from original Elite. Any chance of improving them?

Re: Rock hermit tunnel graphics
I'd guess you're using BGS? Its tunnel effect can be added to rock hermits.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Re: Rock hermit tunnel graphics
In case you don't know howto enable the tunnel effect on core hermits do this:
1. Create a Config folder into AddOns folder.
2. Create a shipdata-overrides.plist file.
3: Insertinto the shipdata-overriders.plist file.
In case you want to use a different tunnel texture here are a couple of textures I have done for hermits: https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=16028.

3: Insert
Code: Select all
{
"rock-hermit" = {
"script_info" = {
bgs_tunnel_texture = "bgs_docking_tunnel01.png";
bgs_tunnel_shape = 2;
};
};
}

Re: Rock hermit tunnel graphics
For trunk, this seems to work (in a
shipdata-overrides.plist
as above):Code: Select all
{
"oolite_template_rock-hermit" = {
script_info = {bgs_tunnel_shape = "2.0";};
};
}
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Re: Rock hermit tunnel graphics
That should work with 1.80 too. In the long run it's probably better to use oolite_template_rock-hermit as updated hermit alternatives should like_ship it.

Re: Rock hermit tunnel graphics
Sorry, I should have realised they came from BGS. OK, I've gone with the default bgs setting. Won't know if I've got it right until I find a rock hermit, I'm running late on a big platinum delivery run so it may be a while...
That change isn't difficult, but maybe in some future release something like this could be made the default for rock hermits - I'd imagine there are plenty of people who don't look at these boards and just go with whatever the game and add-ons throw at them in the way of graphics, and vaguely wonder why that one bit looks a bit naff.

Re: Rock hermit tunnel graphics
Might it be worth adding this to the Tinkerer's Workshop thread - Diz?

Re: Rock hermit tunnel graphics
A bit pointless mentioning it now as the OXP will not be updated in its current form for v1.80, but the Accessories Rock Hermits have had a custom BGS docking effect since February

Re: Rock hermit tunnel graphics
OK, just tried that and the asteroids are very pretty, still haven't sighted a hermit since I originally asked this question. There'll probably be three along in a row eventually...

That's a good idea.. perhaps one of the gentlemen involved in this discussion would like to do so?Cody wrote:Might it be worth adding this to the Tinkerer's Workshop thread - Diz?

Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Re: Rock hermit tunnel graphics
In the end I decided to go with the extra little tweak for rock hermits rather than the accessories pack, since I also have Asteroid Storm loaded and have got used to the variety of asteroids it offers.
The tweak worked in the end, once I realised that the config folder needed to be called Config with a capital C. This also enabled a couple of other tweaks which I'd thought were working, but they were related to HUDs and I haven't changed HUDs in months so hadn't noticed...
Sorry it took me so long to reply - I made something like half a million credits on that run, but the last couple of deliveries were only a couple of hours before the deadline, there wasn't really much time for sightseeing. My new goal is to work through all of the galaxies, making at least a million credits on cargo runs per galaxy. But what am I going to do with the money? REALLY need more bling, expensive toys, etc. etc.
