Re: Introduce Yourself.
Hi!
I'm so old I played Elite first on a BBC micro in 1985...
...and was promptly and permanently smitten.
I also played it on the C64 and then again on the Amiga 500 (ooh, that was slick!).
I did have Oolite installed on a PC some years ago, before losing a third of a decade to Warcraft - ugh!
Looking forward to some more space adventures!

Re: Introduce Yourself.
G'day and welcome aboard, Eleanor!
I first played Elite on a C64 myself. (Actually, it's more accurate to say, I bought a C64 specifically to play Elite on.. 'til then, I'd been using a highly expanded and customised VIC20!)

Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Hi Eleanor and welcome
It was the spectrum for me with an old portable black and white tv (not that it made much difference with the spectrum )Eleanor Azuranai wrote:I also played it on the C64 and then again on the Amiga 500 (ooh, that was slick!).
Thankfully, I've managed to escape that particular affliction... so farEleanor Azuranai wrote:...before losing a third of a decade to Warcraft - ugh!

Re: Introduce Yourself.
Hi all
Long time lurker here finally saying Hi. I first started playing Elite on the Spectrum; bought it the day it came out (remember the Firebird gold edition.....still have it). Discovered Oolite at 1.76 just after the ED kickstarter started after somebody mentioned it on their forums and haven't looked back. Except when my computer died. 14 months to be able to afford to replace it (major meltdown) and the first thing I installed was Oolite 1.77.1. But had to start my career over.....again. It seems I can only ever get to Deadly then something happens. I accidently pressed record once instead of play and ruined my save!!! Still, now playing way too much and at around 5000 kills so hopefully this time......
The main reason I haven't posted before is I suffer from severe depression and am not too good with strangers. But everyone here seems so friendly and I don't think I've seen a flame yet so I finally decided to pitch in and say a big thanks for helping keep me sane.

Re: Introduce Yourself.
Hello to everybody!
Just joined after so long being just a guest around. I didn't get to play the "golden age" Elite versions, but nevertheless started my gaming experience with LucasArt's X-Wing and DR-DOS's Netwars.
Glad to be able to personally give a large bow to the developers of Oolite and to the so enthusiastic members of the nicest board on this side of Riedquat.
Also a quick question, are the GMail email addresses banned here "for good" or only for the first time registration?
