OXZ list update problem?

Post by Thargoid »

I just updated to the current trunk (1.81.0.5842.140706-34da9f9) and it looks like I can no longer update the OXZ list. If I select it from the manager it just sits there on the downloading file screen and doesn't do anything (downloading <1kB of <1kB at the top)?

From the dev-list I see that some work has been done on the downloading filesize counter, and I wonder if it may have broken this? I can download OXZs from my existing list without issue, just can't update the list.

I'm on Win7 home prem 64 bit, with a freshly updated build.

Seems to update fine here - now 202 OXZs (Win7 Oolite nightly 1.81.0.5841-140706-ed44de8).
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Maybe try it again in case there was some temporary problem connecting to addons.oolite.org? I can't think of a reason why the changes made to the downloader would stop the OXZ list downloading but wouldn't stop an OXZ downloading.

Hmm. I'm a commit ahead of you (5842 vs 5841) - can you update to todays and confirm it's still good on your install? If it is then I'll try and rebuild again from a clean install and see if it helps (although I got no errors in the update I did earlier).

Sorry, I'm only a dumb pilot, amigo - I can't build from source, and only use the nightlies.

OK, fair enuff ;)

Will wait until tomorrow then, unless someone else with a cutting edge build comes along and can verify 5842. Thanks anyway.

Editted to add - tried again and I'm now getting explicit download errors when I try to update the OXZ list. The tail-end of the latest.log is giving:

Code: Select all

18:43:11.701 [debugTCP.connected]: Connected to debug console "DebugConsole".
18:43:24.479 [plist.parse.failed]: Failed to parse C:\Oolite/Trunk/oolite.app/GNUstep/Library/Caches/org.aegidian.oolite/Oolite-download.plist as a property list.

after trying to update a couple of times (it gets partway through the download and then chokes). Looks like something somewhere has got corrupted either in my install or generally? Is there a simple way to rebuild the OXZ cache (this was a shift-start, so obviously not that)?

I can access addons.oolite.org fine via a browser, and download OXZ's from my current (stale) list. But looks like the list itself won't update for some reason.

I'll do a clean rebuild and see if it helps or not.

4f4edaa8 is available at the moment, and includes what's supposed to be a fix for the Windows "hang" problem when downloading large OXZs. Maybe it'll also fix this?

Unfortunately not. Just updated to it, and build after a make clean and it still won't update the list. I get these at the end of the log (after start-up complete and going to the update screen and starting an update):

Code: Select all

20:11:38.784 [debugTCP.connected]: Connected to debug console "DebugConsole".

20:11:50.112 [gnustep]: 2014-07-06 20:11:50.112 oolite[11896] No colon terminating name in header (})
and it just sits there in the downloading file... screen :(

That seems like it can't even get the HTTP headers out of the file.

What happens if you go to http://addons.oolite.org/api/1.0/overview in a web browser? Can you download and save that file, and is it a complete plist if you do?

No, it's incomplete.

If I download it a few times and compare the files, there are lumps missing within the file compared to other downloads, and if I go directly via Chrome there's bits missing at the start and end (and maybe in the middle too, can't tell that easily).

I'm also having problems with some downloaded OXZs (like Superhub) where the file isn't unzippable if I try to do it via the manager or via addons.oolite.org download (the right hand column of the table) but if I download from the wiki directly it's fine. It complains about unsupported compression formats and suchlike, although the file itself seems ok (I can look inside it to see the content, so it's not totally corrupted).

At least from my side here it looks like communication to addons.oolite.org is screwed :(

Don't know if it helps, but I downloaded that file via Firefox, opened it in Notepad++, and it has 3139 lines. Is that complete?

Downloading it 3x via Chrome and opening it also in Notepad++, I get 3138, 3136 and 3146 line files via right-click and save-as (literally doing it three times in a row).

So I can't get a consistent full download of the file for some reason?

Tried two more times, and got the same number of lines (3139) for each download (121KB).
