Aha! The semicolon is your friend in these situations:

"Maybe it really was some new Galcop prototype; they were testing a lot of new ships at the moment, what with the Thargoid situation."

This could be the start of something beautiful :)

Thumbs up! I thought the space battle was nicely done.

And the Tribbles/Trumbles bit. Ha.
I am not a number! I am a free man! ... Oh what the heck. You can call me Sics.

But why didn't Jim destroy the Courier after collision? Its shields should be weakened so it could not stand a good blow of military laser..
Well, without giving too much away, my view is along these lines...

1. He knew he'd lost his own rear shield.
2. He had no guarantee the Courier wasn't feinting.
3. He suspects the Courier pilot to be 'Elite'. Jim isn't.
4. Does Jim's SuperCobra have a military laser?
5. His only 'ace' is he knows the SuperCobra has 'speed'.

Cheers,

Drew.

Also, for anyone who isn't a trained/hardened killer, then it's one thing to fight for your life and take down your opponent, but another thing entirely to wipe an opponent when they aren't actually attacking you...
Very funny, Scotty, now beam down my clothes...
