Is it just me or is there influence from Griff's Coriolis in the Frontier's station exterior design?

I wouldn't necessarily assume a direct influence. If you take the Elite Coriolis, stick with the basic shape, and ramp it up by putting lights, structures, etc. on the outside, you'll end up with a similar final result. Thus I'd rather explain it with similar vision of what a Coriolis would look like if it wasn't just flat surfaces.

But I'll also agree with Maik that I like Griff's re-interpretation better. Well, I like the whole aesthetic behind his designs (the 'crispiness', for want of a better word) better than E:D's approach. :D

That Coriolis station is a little over-done (like some of the ship models <sighs>), but of more interest to me is the distance to the planet in the background.
If that's actually an in-game set-up, does it look about the right distance for geostationary orbit?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

In any case, I feel obliged to state at this point that, regardless of influences or overdoing it with some models etc., this game shapes up to be totally and absolutely mind-blowing. Full respect to Frontier.

wow, just seen that clip Drew posted showing the ship docking - how amazing are those graphics :shock: There's no way my pc is going to be able to handle that - i hope that was some sort of Ultra setting and you can dial it back a bit in the final game.

The station does look a bit gaudy at the moment but i expect they'll change a lot of those window lights a bit before the final release, it's all just white squares at the moment like everyone had every light in the room switched on at once and didn't draw the curtains - their electricity bill would be huge!
The switch in the graphics engine when it changes fom drawing space to drawing the station interior is pretty amazing, completely seamless - i had no idea they were going to build such an incredible interior, will be even more amazing when you can step out of the ship and loiter around watching ships load up with cargo and depart.

Yeah - and my current PC is ailing anyway. I have been slowly gathering components over the last six months for a partial rebuild - but a new, and seriously capable, graphics card is way beyond my budget. I guess I'll find out just how good my old GTX 550Ti is when I get access to Beta-2.

It varies a lot, but Earth from a geostationary orbit would look about the same size as a tennis ball at about six inches, Mars about eight inches, and Venus (because it rotates *really* slowly) a tennis ball 30 feet away. That's according to some quick scribbled calculations I've just done, which may be completely wrong.

The other factor is the field of view of the camera taking the picture - if it's zoomed in, the planet would be bigger of course.

Are the stations meant to be geostationary?
