Flight experience

Post by Agis Silverfish »

Hello!

I have had yet another idea for an OXP. This one would be able to track the total flying time of the commander. That would show your flying experience and give us another thing to brag about ("I got Dangerous after so many hours!") What do you think? :D

That's pretty much what the shipclock does, ain't it? Or do you mean something else?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Cody,
Me thinks that he is talking like a trucker... you start the diesel up and there is a clock that starts running when you put the unit into gear... it logs how many hrs that the transmission has been engaged in actual hauling.

Ah well... that'd be a very different number indeed. Mind you, shouldn't elapsed time in witchspace count?

Indeed it should.. I think the simplest and most sensible way to implement it would be by simply deducting the start-date from the clock, and converting the result to hours.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

In that case, my leisurely cruise to 6,400 kills took 2,202 ship-days (or 52,848 hours).
How that would equate to in-system time, I know not - it would be interesting though.

Yes, that's is what I mean. "Flight hours" (or a similar expression) is how you determine if a pilot is a veteran.

But if it also had a Years Light Traveled Counter it would also be great.

I understand where you are coming from but for a bountyhunter-smuggler like me, I can spend a lot of time cruising for my next target or mark. In the meantime, I am picking up scattered cargo, shooting asteroids, skimming suns, checking out various planets for business and may only get a single kill. Or I get lucky and end up getting a pot full of targets that just happen to get in the way of my primary goal. So when does your "kill score time" start and when does it end. AIs it based on the time that you actually start combat and if so, how is that initiated? and when does it stop... when the kill is registered back at base? how about escape capsules... there are times when a pilot ejects and does not die with the ship but is picked up and returned very much alive to the authorities. your OXP would have to consider an awful lot of variables to work properly each time. But for little old contrabandista me, I just kill, kill, kill and tally up at the end of the day. Since I lead a pure life, my lifespan should be a long and happy one. ( leaning back in the comchair and sipping a long cool one.) Cheers.

<chortles> If longevity is linked to purity - I've had my chips!

I have a Buffalo NAS, at it happens - sweet kit!

You are probably right about too many variables, btw.
