XML to OpenStep
Is there a plug-in for Notepad++ which can convert XML to OpenStep? If so, is it something that a dumb pilot could use?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

I don't think so but if there is one then yes.Cody wrote:Is there a plug-in for Notepad++ which can convert XML to OpenStep? If so, is it something that a dumb pilot could use?

So far as I've been able to tell (been looking for a long time) there are no NextStep/OpenStep plugins for Notepad++ at all, let alone a converter.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Yeah, that's what I thought - but Solo, while tweaking my hud, converted it to OpenStep. He said something about having a macro for Notepad++ - but he's MIA.Diziet Sma wrote:So far as I've been able to tell (been looking for a long time) there are no NextStep/OpenStep plugins for Notepad++ at all, let alone a converter.

He came up with the holy grail for Oolite editing, then went offline before posting it? Noooo...

Hi!
There is an OOLITE Wiki page for OOLITE Converters http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Oolite_Converters. It has references to XML to OpenStep converters.
Cheers,

Re: XML to OpenStep
The conversion script is very handy, but needs Python installed to run, and is not directly usable from within Notepad++, which would be ideal. Also missing for Notepad++ are plugins for syntax checking in both XML and OpenStep plists.

95% of such a conversion can be done by just search and replace, although you need to be a little careful about the order that you do things in so you don't get mixed up between braces. The hardest part is tidying things up afterwards to remove excess carriage returns etc and making indentations correct.
It could possibly be automated into a macro, but I've never looked into it as for me it's not too difficult to do manually (on the rare-ish occasion it's needed these days).
