Oolite Soundtrack

Post by Psylem »

Duudes! I was in the middle of an Oolite session and suddenly remembered something from when I was a 10 y.o. playing Elite all the time... HOTEL CALIFORNIA!!!! This song to me was Elite to a T.

I don't know if there's a similar thread, I just had to sign up to share this one while I was still being overcome by the nostalgia of remember this. Has anyone got any similar songs they would add if an Oolite soundtrack was a thing?

Hi Psylem... welcome aboard. There are two albums I always associate with playing BBC Elite - Beethoven's 5th/6th (perfect for cruisin' the 'lanes), and Pink Floyd's Animals (Dogs was perfect for anarchy systems). Certainly, Hotel California has the right mood - but Journey of the Sorcerer is Eagles at their very best. Now I play Oolite to the sounds of my CD library, which contains everything from Bach to Zappa.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Cool, I recognise that tune from the hitch hikers guide intro, I never knew it was them.

I'm thinking ride of the valkyries is an obvious winner for fending off pirates, though maybe a bit too obvious and cleche.

Though I inherited an appreciation for Zapper, it's not something I'd attribute to zipping around space. Dogs for sure! I guess these days we're not confined to what might fit on a cassette tape for, but I'm just wondering if anyone has a particular song that did it for them.

"on a dark desert highway"... that just took me back to this place, travelling through space from planet to planet
"there's plenty of room in the hotel california" yep, first open world game ever!
"you can check out any time you want, but you can never leave!" here I am, decades later.... it's so spot on it's blowing my mind right now.

For me the perfect music is still Another Girl, Another Planet - or, in slower moments, Benson, Arizona, from Dark Star.

For me the tune used in Griffs shader constore expo movie has become tied to oolite.

I've always found the entire ELO album 'Time' to be quite fitting in Oolite.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Space truckin? yeah. :D

I kept thinking about Star Trekkin' earlier,
but decided that this thread called for more serious concideration.
