[HELP] Oolite wont open/run (v1.77)

Hey everyone
I'm new here, and I have been playing Oolite for the past year and a half and haven't yet gotten around to joining the forums.
But today is that day, I am in need of some assistance.

Im running a Windows 7 laptop.
With Oolite v1.77
With about 30 oxps.

I had been playing Oolite quite fine for a long time.
But then suddenly just today.

I turned on my laptop and clicked on the start menu Oolite icon.
Nothing happened.
So i attempted it a few more times and after a few computer restarts i tried running it from the cmd.

Windows then said that it closed because of an error etc... but it didn't give me any details.
I tried using -nosplash ...
that didn't work :/

It just wont open. ( It's the only thing running)

I looked in the oolite.app -> logs and found that both the logs were blank >: ( ???

Wtf is going on?
hang on ill go fetch the driver/computer details of my laptop .... (runs off)

hm ok.. here we are.

Processor: Intel Core i5 Cpu M250 @ 2.40 GHz
RAM: 4.00 GB
64-bit operating system

Driver:
NVIDIA NVS 3100 m

Try reinstalling it? Perhaps in a different location (not Program Files), in case your C: drive is partly corrupt (in which case you have bigger problems than getting Oolite to run).

Hi Gouanaco, and welcome aboard - just to check, you are running 1.77 and hadn't just updated to 1.77.1, yes?

Hi and welcome Gouanaco!

Your odds imho if no other symptoms:
1. Find what software or hardware changed between the last successful and the first unsuccessful attempt and revert it. This is preferred if it is a short time and you do a few changes, for example a new driver or hardware.
2. Reinstall the game, I suggest the new 1.77.1 version.
3. Reinstall Windows if no other solution.

That would be a bit drastic, and shouldn't be necessary.

Before you do something really drastic... did you set a restore point?s

If you don't know,,, go to start, control panel,system and security then restore to an earlier time. then try to find a rewtore point from several days back. then do a restore and see if that works. It is a good habit to get into... before making changes.. set a restore point , saved my bacon many times.

Hey everyone, thanks for your suggestions for fixing the problem.

The solution seemed to be much more simple haha lol

I tried re-installing it.
It was originally installed to C:\oolite

so i installed it to C:\program files (x86)\oolite
and moved all of my saves/oxps etc over and now it seems to work fine.

Although that still might not mean that the problem with running it from c:\ is not fixed :/
Ill have to look into that.

Also i thought i had the most resent version ? ill see if i can upgrade to 1.77.1
Also i like these forums, there nice and clean and very friendly (unlike some others )
So i think ill stick around

It is good to hear the problem solved.
You can get many bugfix in 1.77.1.

This most interesting as my oolite is C:\oolite and it is running just fine.. most peculiar. But Hey, if it works, don't knowck it. Congrats.

Indeed you may have problems with it installed under program files, as Windows does odd caching type things with that folder (hence why it is usually installed outside it off the root directory). There are some details elsewhere about it (I'm due on a flight in 10 minutes so don't have time for hunt-the-reference), but others here may be able to point you in the right direction).

But I just wanted to warn you that you may have jumped from the frying pan into the fire with that change, swapping one issue potentially for another one.

One thought could be if there is some kind of system policy etc that is on the machine which prevents installation of stuff into the root directory (either a Windows policy or a security/AV one perhaps)?

There might be, its a School Laptop :/
(Although its mine but the school controls its network)

That might of messed it up?

Also ive been playing Oolite quite fine for about 4 hours now and no issues on the Program Files front.

Download the new installer, and install into the same directory (C:\Program Saves (x86)\Oolite). The installer won't touch the old saves or oxps.
