Interesting Description...
I used to call my Elite site the Far Colonies Network. I just searched for the Far Colonies on google and the first result was this:
http://www.onlinespyshop.info/elite-far ... unter.html
I mention it here cos of the last two words in the URL. I also hosted the Spy hunter OXP on that site (and still do on the reimagined one).
Bizarre.

Interesting! Possibly some form of automated process to "borrow" other URLs and boost their Google rankings?

Re: Interesting Description...
Yeah, it's very odd. Tempting to write an email to the shop and ask why they used that particular description...
Incidentally, whilst I'm on the subject, I was searching for Far Colonies to find out where in the Elite history the term is used. I thought that the original Frontier gazetteer called the systems around Lave that, but the copy I have from the Amiga abandonware site calls them the "Old Worlds". I can't find another reference to Far Colonies anywhere.
Anyone remember where the reference is from?

Probably the combination of "elite" and "spy": they are probably two words they want to camp on, or near, selling "spy" gizmos as they do.Selezen wrote:Yeah, it's very odd. Tempting to write an email to the shop and ask why they used that particular description...
I don't know ... it might be your own invention! The phrase "Far Colonies" doesn't seem to appear in the Frontier Gazetteer. It's a good name, though, and I think your own timeline is enough justification for a bit of bleedthrough into the canon!Selezen wrote:Incidentally, whilst I'm on the subject, I was searching for Far Colonies to find out where in the Elite history the term is used. Re: Interesting Description...
That's the impression I'm getting at the moment - I made it up myself. Weird though, since I tried not to just make stuff up for the timeline or for doing the last version of the website.
Interesting that you mention it getting into the canon, because that may be exactly what just happened - thinking about it I might create a topic on this, cos I think it's big news...

I remember this on the news a few days ago - I don't know if yours is a related issue.

Re: Interesting Description...
Sounds like it could be. They aren't going to get a lot of business from tagging things on my site, unless someone is building a Cobra and needs viewscreen cameras.

Re: Interesting Description...
My suggestion would have been to ask you. It feels like one of those "Contact your system administrator" error messages... what do you do if you are the system administrator?!Selezen wrote:I was searching for Far Colonies to find out where in the Elite history the term is used. Re: Interesting Description...
That's kinda what google said. I searched for " elite far colonies" and the first bunch of links were either daftworks or here.
Some did link to some V fan fiction though, which entertained me for a half hour.

Re: Interesting Description...
No connection, but Far Colony is a space game under development.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

The site has a rather bad rating with WOT, and my AV software threw a fit when I clicked on the link.Selezen wrote:

Probably they're spying on you while you're on their site. Seems logical.Gimi wrote:The site has a rather bad rating with WOT, and my AV software threw a fit when I clicked on the link.Selezen wrote:

Re: Interesting Description...
It looks rather like a phishing site to me - that's the only reason I can think of that a sales site would have made a URL out of random words from another site.
