Anarchies does not make you offender without a reason, so I would rule that one out. Also, the more-difficult-to-become-clean mechanism only kicks in when your fugitive, for offenders there is no change to vanilla Oolite.

I only can imagine two reasons for launching with a bounty when you had no bounty while docking:

1) You have docking control installed and ignored the rules. But I think in this case the bounty (= offender status) should already show up on your F5-screen. (I have never used docking control myself, so I am not completely sure how it is handled.)

2) You have illegal goods on board while launching. In this case you are still clean on the F5-screen, but offender as soon as you have launched. You are not by any chance flying Thargoid's new creation, which can store goods in its magical cargo hold without you seeing them?

If it's neither of the two, I only can further imagine some weird OXP-clash which would need more investigation. In this case a list of your installed OXPs would be needed, in order to determine which ones of the list are manipulating legal status and could interfere with each other.

I was not suspecting Anarchies itself, I was just wondering whether minor offenses that previously got cleared by one jump now compounded into an Offender status. But if that doesn't kick in until you're a Fugitive, obviously that can be ruled out.

I've got Traffic Control, if that's what you mean. I've tried ignoring their instructions to get out of the approach lane; I even sat right in front of the docking bay with TAF at the max for quite some time with no change in legal status. And this was with a Commander that had just dropped form Offender to Clean, so it's plausible there was some residue bounty still attached.

This is absolutely not the case: In four or five of my X-Files I've had to reload after being shot down by police and/or bounty hunters and/or pirates (some of the police craft from Isis Interstellar pack quite a punch with their double & triple lasers, and my poor ship is not Iron Assed yet). Relaunching from the same save position, without altering cargo or equipment, has never caused a change in legal status. Neither do I have the Hyper Cargo installed. (On the ship, that is. It does reside in the AddOns folder.)

I've had no incidences since this topic was first posted. For the time being, I'm leaning towards that I inadvertently did something to upset the powers that be. I'm sure all players are familiar with that one. The strange thing is that it happened with such an alarming frequency, and that I also started paying attention to it and could have sworn with absolute conviction that on at least two of the six there was absolutely nothing even remotely irregular going on. No illegal cargo. No lasers or missiles fired. We're talking launch from station with status clean - hyperspace - inject away from traffic at witchpoint - jump drive towards planet - getting shot at by police.
Human memory being what it is though, there are no guarantees.
I will be keeping an extra sharp lookout for this thing in the future though, in case it rears its ugly head again.

You didn't visit a Free Trade Zone, by any chance? That gets you a frowny face from the good people at GalCop ...

Nope. We're talking travels devoid of anything even remotely mentionable. That is, until the fuzz came storming in.

But as I said above, I'm going to chalk this down to faulty observational skills and/or memory.
Until it starts happening again...

I think this problem could be related to the kind of cheese he is. :D

Maybe the station air purifiers can't cope with the aroma.

HyperCargo OXP installed?
Earlier versions flagged the oddest stuff as offender goods.

If there is a bug in the OXP which makes legal goods illegal, it could affect you even without you actually using the device. Having the OXP in your AddOns folder suffices.

So you should make sure that you have the latest version in your AddOns folder, regardless whether you have it on your ship or not.

Easy test: remove the OXP. Does the error persist?

As I've been unable to reproduce the darn thing since I first posted, removing an OXP isn't going to give us any conclusive proof in either direction. I tried the other way around: Loaded a Clean Commander, filled the hold with samples of all commodities except the 3 (known) illegals and Alien Items, launched, checked legal status, jumped, checked legal status, aimed for beacon & hit injectors. Rinse & repeat. I managed 7 or 8 of these before Oolite decided to crash on me. No change in legal status observed.

Edit: Out of curiosity, I checked the HC thread. Latest bugfix was Sep 6, so there is no possibility of me ever flying around with anything but v1.02 - I was still in Oolite hibernation back then.

Actually, It's possible to get offender status 'accidentally'. If your laser fire comes within a certain range of a GalCop, or nervous trader or your missile Splash-damages either (doesn't matter what you were actually shooting at ) you get a temporary Offender flag.

Collateral damage is an important consideration!
No, I'm not a Trumble... that's a speciest and offensive remark!

Do you have Safe Docking installed?

That OXP will add 5 legal status credits if you dock at main station at very high speeds (>=550m/s).

Though you would have been told about it.

Please note that this thread is from October 2010 and has only just been necromanced. Obviously any OXP that was only created in the middle of 2012 can't possibly have any bearing on it.

We don't have a strict policy against thread necromancy here, as there are cases when it is useful to post to an old thread, for instance for reporting problems with an OXP. It makes sense to dig out that OXP's thread and post to it, regardless of its age. However, posting a diagnosis to a problem that happened two-and-a-quarter years ago and didn't resurface since, doesn't seem such a valid reason IMO.

Well beyond some one here has got a time machine and not told anyone I must agree. Surely you would have realised that I hadn't read that date of the original post rather than not understand basic causality!

I didn't want to suggest that. Apologies for that.

My point was more that it's generally worthwhile to briefly check the dates of previous posts, if you happen to come across an existing thread that you haven't seen before, but with one or two new posts. :)

I normally do. Given the timestamp of that post I was doing several things at once, if my memory serves me right.
