Oolite 1.77 gfx problem [Solved]
Erm... is anything different from r5603, as regards gfx? While trunk moves the traces across the scanner smoothly, the deployment build does not. It appears to have recreated a problem that I had with nVidia drivers a while back, which was cured by switching to Win 7 (with an older gfx driver) from Win XP. Trunk r5603 still displays the scanner traces nicely - 1.77 does not. The FPS remains the same (~75), Griffs ships etc display properly, game-play seems fine - apart from the scanner traces! Any ideas?

I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Re: Oolite 1.77 gfx problem
I cannot reproduce this here. The scanner traces move exactly the same (smoothly) for both deployment and test release builds. This is with an Intel HD card.
And, to answer the question, no it does not seem that we've had any graphics changes since 5603. The last changes in that area were just before that revision.

Guess I'll have to stick with r5603 - to an immersion-player such as myself, jerky scanner traces are a complete no-no!
I'm reluctant to update the gfx driver now, in case it ruins r5603 for me too - but I have little choice, it seems! Bah!!

Try going to Test Release configuration for 1.77 and see if that helps. The patch program is available at Berlios.

No difference seen with nVidia drivers under Linux.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Nope... that didn't work, I'm afraid. Horribly jerky traces again... but r5603 has no problems.another_commander wrote:Try going to Test Release configuration for 1.77 and see if that helps.
It is a very curious problem... the guys at EVGA blame the nVidia drivers, but I suppose an update is my only choice now. <sobs quietly>

Re: Oolite 1.77 gfx problem
Just a thought.. are you using 1.76 or 1.77 OXPs with the new release, EV? Is it possible that something there is causing the trouble?

Re: Oolite 1.77 gfx problem
I'm using an identical set of OXPs in both builds. Even if I switch 1.77 to strict mode, the jerkiness is still there. Bugger!

I see no problem either with a GeForce 8600M GS.

Aye... it's specific to my machine/GTX550Ti, it seems!

Re: Oolite 1.77 gfx problem
Wild guess - since it's the only change between 5603 and 5612 that gets even close to graphics handling - what happens if you replace the
SDL_mixer.dll
in your 1.77 installation with the one from your working nightly build? (I hope: nothing, since anything else would be a bit strange)- Cody

Heh... already tried that one, cim (courtesy of a_c). Nope, no difference... still jerky (as is r5608)!cim wrote:... what happens if you replace theSDL_mixer.dll

Re: Oolite 1.77 gfx problem
I think it's fixed... last October's gfx driver (306.97) seems to have cured the problems. More testing needed, but it looks good... thanks to all!
