Re: Limit Theory
The first stretch goal was a ship editor all along, but now the next stretch goal (at $100k) has been announced, and it is … <drum roll> … cross-platform support for Mac and Linux!
So, all you Mac and Linux people who found this game idea interesting, but turned away when you found out that it was Windows-only, I encourage you to come back and take a second look. (There is also an awesome new video with in-game footage.)
The campaign made its first $50.000 in just seven days; there's no reason why it shouldn't make another $50.000 with four weeks remaining. And this will mean that Limit Theory for Mac/Linux will be go as well.

Re: Limit Theory
The guy:
"I had a little time today and I built an in-game editor. Oh by the way, in the mean time I also made a 8.5 minute 1080p video to demonstrate it"
And he apologized for not creating a new music for it
How many can say the same today? Not me for sure.

He is truly a god amongst designers...
I designed a modular star-cruiser design for paper modelling that might work as a ship construction kit in Oolite. Does that count as something on the same road but not as cool?

Re: Limit Theory
Well, I'm glad to say that I have been proven wrong and this game has stormed through it's funding limit.
I still have slight reservations that some good projects may get lost in the static of numerous like minded projects. Then that's a presentation thing I suppose. If it's a choice between kickstarter and nothing, despite the flaws to have it around is better than not.
I'm a bit of a sucker for facilitation. I like things to be made and done.
I would say that that I'm not sure it'll hit the 100,000 mark and without mac/linux support it is of little use to me.

Re: Limit Theory
It's a damn nice little game, though, and I'm not surprised it's got its funding. Americans seem more willing to part with spare cash that us tight Brits. The fact that he's added an in-game ship creator is pretty good proof that he really really really knows what he's doing. He's basically created a functional basic 3D editor in a couple of days.
If Josh can keep the focus (and with $75,000 in his pocket I think the incentive will be there) then this has the makings of a very very good product.
Damnit, I think I'm going to have to defy Mrs Selezen and pledge to it. No. I must be strong.

Re: Limit Theory
It has consistently made more than $5,000 per day. Currently it's over $80,000 already. Even if the trend slows down a little in the coming days, I think it's going to pass the $100,000 mark latest on Wednesday. I rather expect Tuesday, though. Actually, I'd almost bet that it'll happen on Monday already.ClymAngus wrote:I would say that that I'm not sure it'll hit the 100,000 mark and without mac/linux support it is of little use to me.
By the way: Kicktraq currently projects its final result to be anything between $198,000 and $364,000.
EDIT: There is no slowing down of the trend. Forget all I wrote above: I do bet that we'll get Mac/Linux support on Monday already.
Also: the next stretch goal has been announced at $133k: planetary ownership. This and all following stretch goals are not promised for the initial release, but will later come as post-release content updates.

Re: Limit Theory
First stretch goal at 75K has been reached, now it already has near 88K.
The 100K goal which brings Linux & Mac versions is well in reach.

Extrapolation once again suggests that I keep my gob shut.
I'll keep an eye on it.

As soon as I wrote that, the slowdown did kick in during the weekend (I'm told that slow weekends are common on Kickstarter), making it unlikely to get over $100,000 already today. But it's definitely going to happen tomorrow.Commander McLane wrote:EDIT: There is no slowing down of the trend. Forget all I wrote above: I do bet that we'll get Mac/Linux support on Monday already.

Wow, it only has another $4500 to go for the multi-platform target! That's good going!

Re: Limit Theory
Na, your posts were informative. I can take blunt education as long as it is education. Which this was.
There have been several things now where I've though "it'll never make the cash" low and behold 1 week later donations have sky rocketed.
Honestly I do find the entire idea very exciting. Socialist funding enterprises. Nifty. I'm considering setting aside 19-20 quid a month for speculative investment. Usually I'm pretty good at adjusting to the new. This little financing development however has caught me off guard.
I beg your indulgence whilst I acclimatise to the brave new world in which I have found myself....

Re: Limit Theory
It's there.
As of this writing, $100,050 in pledges (and another $200 via PayPal, so technically the barrier was broken a couple of hours ago).
@Clym: You'll get your Mac/Linux version. Now get on the boat and make your pledge.

Re: Limit Theory
With 16 days still to go, there is still plenty of time for the Planetary Ownership reach goal at 133k, yes this kickstarter has done very well indeed. The mind boggles as to what it's young developer Josh will do next once he finishes Limit Theory.

Re: Limit Theory
Let's just hope it doesn't involve any rehab or therapy! This project does look really exciting, and if he pulls it off on his own that would be truly impressive.Geraldine wrote:The mind boggles as to what it's young developer Josh will do next once he finishes Limit Theory.
