non-GCW stations

Post by maxskunk »

Hi,

I'm new to Oolite, what a great game!

The reference sheet notes "non-GCW" stations. How do I know when im at a GCW station or not? What I would like to try is buying the "illegal" commodities from non-GCW stations to sell to GCW stations, while keep my legal status clean.

Thanks.

G'day maxskunk, and welcome aboard!

The "Main" Station around the planet, the one the Nav-beacon on the Compass relates to, is the GCW (Galactic Cooperative of Worlds) station, be they coriolis, dodo, torus, etc.. Any other station/dockable object, such as a Superhub, Rock Hermit, Black Monks Monastery, etc, is a non-GCW station.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

OK, that sounds great. I was thinking that maybe those stations in Anarchy systems might be non-GCW, guess not. Of those places you mentioned I have only found a couple of Rock Hermits thus far. Thanks!

Well, that would depend on what OXPs you have installed. Most non-GCW stations are added via OXP, Rock Hermits being the exception, as they're in the core game.

The best detection would be that you can save your game at a GCW station. :P

Welcome to the friendliest Board this side of Riedquat, maxskunk .-)

And yes, it is the game a lot of us had in mind when we've played the good old Elite back in the 80th.
