I wish to change the fire button to left Ctrl, but I have no idea what the code is to change it .
I want to do this because I just suffered the stupidest experience I've ever had in Oolite (quite a rare occasion indeed): I had stopped by the seedy space bar in Sotiqu when before I could even get a new bounty head, the bar was attacked - so I went out and kicked some real pirate arse, killing 5 of the 6 uber criminals. Proud of myself, I returned to the bar and went to dock when instead of hitting 's' to slow down, I hit 'a' and shot the bar!! So, any prize I might have won for doing such a spectacular job were right out the window.
Dumbest experience ever in Oolite - even more irritating than trying to slow down and accidentally pushing 'd' releasing cargo...

Try this useful little tool.

Re: Changing Keys from keyconfig.plist
The Ctrl key is a special modifier key in Oolite (changes mouse x-axis mode, traversing the list of primable equipment, switch Advanced Nav Array mode etc) and I don't think you can assign it to anything. However, it is good practice when you approach a station to stand down weapons (underscore key). This functionality was introduced precisely to avoid incidents like the one you described.

Ah... I wondered about the Ctrl key.

Re: Changing Keys from keyconfig.plist
That works just as well, and I don't have to re-program the mind for using another key - I'm a bit embarrassed that I never snapped to that ability . I'll be using this for now on, because shooting the bar was absolute nonsense.another_commander wrote:The Ctrl key is a special modifier key in Oolite (changes mouse x-axis mode, traversing the list of primable equipment, switch Advanced Nav Array mode etc) and I don't think you can assign it to anything. I went ahead and changed the cargo dump button to 'D' instead of 'd' - that should take care of the cargo pod front .
Thanks EV and another_commander .

If you're one of those people who carries an Energy Bomb, it often pays to re-map it (or the comms log key instead) so that you don't accidentally nuke everyone around you when you try to call up the comms log and miss the key.CommRLock78 wrote:I went ahead and changed the cargo dump button to 'D' instead of 'd' - that should take care of the cargo pod front .
The main re-map I do is the next/previous target keys. Yes, minus and plus makes sense, but having to hold shift to get plus is just plain silly, IMO, so I remap it to the = key instead. Saves a lot of messing about when toggling through multiple targets.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Re: Changing Keys from keyconfig.plist
It depends on your keyboard. I always played Oolite in a keyboard with a numeric key-block. There you have the plus/minus keys available at the far right of your keyboard, without the need of shift keys. Only recently I started playing it on a laptop with just a basic key board. And yes, there it is kind of silly that you need shift-= to access the + key. I agree that you need a different keyconfig on those keyboards. So, maybe in addition of a bbc keyconfig, Oolite should ship with a 'laptop' keyconfig. Or some alternative keyconfigs could be stored in the wiki.Diziet Sma wrote:The main re-map I do is the next/previous target keys. Excellent idea; I too have a laptop that I have to do funky stuff with in order to play (like using , and . for yaw instead of the numeric keypad 1 and 3).Eric Walch wrote:It depends on your keyboard.
