STARSHIP DESIGN CHALLENGE - GalNav analogue to Humvee

Post by Rese249er »

I would like to see a ship which is comparable to the modern-day Humvee. I would think it would be as maneuverable compared to a Cobra 3 as a Humvee is compared to an average pickup truck.
If I could just get a basic design model with a basic shipdata.plist for it, I'd like to work it into the 249th as an escort to a heavily fortified Behemoth-type ship.
I might also be asking for some help modifying the Railgun.OXP as a much larger variant of the standard, with the associated performance difference, to fit to this carrier.
Got all turned around, lost my nav connection... Where am I now?

No problem with that. Just PM me when you need help. Note, however, that the railgun is a player-only weapon. It would be vastly difficult to make it available to NPCs.

A space hummer, so tough as hell, modular for quick damage change out, easily changeable payloads (dust off payload, supply payload, sentry payload), planet fall capabilities (so something at least a little bit aerodynamic).

Hmm I'm thinking something like this: (top middle)

crossed with this

and a bit of that:

If my new Yellowbelly Racer is the type of ship you are looking for, I will gladly provide you with the wings3D model, the gimp texture file and a basic shipdata.plist to tinker with. Just let me know. :D

Best regards

Remembering the old willis jeep and the Land Rover, something modular, so bit can be quickly swapped out if broken, and when no parts are available can be fixed most of the time with a hammer...
Ease of repair over dynamics (compare airliner engine accessibility over fighters)

Would that apply to Oolite capital ships with their drives mounted externally, outrigger-style? <grins>
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Anything crossed with the Eagle Transporter is a win. That's where NASA should be up to IRL by now.

That one especially evokes the image I had.

That is... unfortunate. I was hoping to have it serve a heavy weapons role like a tank cannon.

I put a lengthier explanation of the reasons in the Railgun thread some time ago.

Hey, if we asked nicely maybe we could "borrow" it.

That's a beaut! One note: could you put a turret on the aft section topside, about a quarter shiplength from the stern? Preferable low firepower-high ROF?

Oooh, that's a bit of a thug - I like it :)
It really doesn't need a turret . /subliminal message
